"Thank you for your kind review. We are always happy to find a solution to your problem. It was a pleasure to serve you!"
- Change orders. When we were looking to have this work done we got three independent quotes on the project. We were very careful to have the quotes for identical labor and materials so we could compare apples to apples what was being offered. We also had the same language put into the contract so that the vendor would be held to the same terms.
Mid-Coast Energy had the best quote (least expensive) so we went with them. However when it came time to do the installation, they kept trying to hit us with change orders. Luckily we had everything in writing, so they had no recourse but to follow through with their commitments, but it was an uphill battle all the way to keep them to what they promised to deliver on. I do not know if this is a habit of theirs, but it felt like they may low-ball quotes in order to get bids and then bring their quote back up or over the other bids through change orders. I would suggest caution in making sure you are careful in the language that is used in contracting.
- Paying to learn. After the installation, the system seemed to run fine for awhile. However, we noticed after some time that when we had guests over or there was a high demand for hot water, the system did not keep up. When we had Mid-Coast come over to look at the system, they said that it was not installed correctly and wanted to charge us time and materials to get it setup correctly. I told them that it was not our job to pay them to learn how to install the boiler properly and that since they did the installation they should make good on their mistakes. After haggling, they finally conceded to pay for the labor and we would cover the materials. I was not happy about this and thought they should make good on their warranty.
- Varying quality of technicians. Mid-Coast seems to have some very good technicians (their "A" team) and then some very poor ones ("C" and below). If you use them, be sure to get their better staff! We have had technicians from the "C" team come to do work that then had to be repaired by an "A" team member. Needless to say, Mid-Coast charged us for both the "A" and "C" member's work. Again, it is not fair to have the client pay Mid-Coast to train their staff!
In conclusion, I really want to like this company. They have some very talented staff and they do a lot of fine work in our community funding projects for various non-profits. I do hope they can turn around some of their business practices
"Thank you for your nice review. It is truly a pleasure to serve you."
1) the "green horn" they sent to my house was not the plumbing guy i was told was the man for the job. he showed up around 9am and was on the phone to his boss the entire time. he disconnected the incoming line but who know what the volume of water was. i don't even think he checked it.
2) if there pump was working properly and there was more the 4gal/min coming from the well then replacing the check valve and fittings to the tank would have been straight forward, or at least take it apart to see if it were plugged. which was the case at my neighbors, who has high iron in the water as well.
3) the last few re-cylces/cleaning the softener did not function properly and it turned the water in the house orange, more so then it was before we installed the softener. which was installed less than a year ago. this never happened and i ended up doing a couple manual flushes.
4) instead of turning the softener to by-pass every time i need to water the garden i would like to install a by-pass line prior to the softener to the spigots. this is about 4' away from the existing supply to the spigot on the west side of the house, which is directly across the east side spigot 30' away. so for a couple "T", some end caps and 35' of tubing they quoted me $550, i don't think the kid even measured the distance. tubing $1 per foot, $10 to $20 in fittings and solder and maybe, maybe, two hours of work...i'll just do it myself.
so, their troubleshooting said "maybe it's the head pressure in the well". they turned the water off around 10am left for the day and showed up 5.5hrs later and checked for leaks and let the well "fill up". NO LUCK, they didn't find anything, test anything or fix anything...nor did they offer a possible next step or solution, nope, just a bill for 3.5hrs of laybor at $85/hr...$300 to shut my water off for an entire day! wife couldn't flush toilets or do laundry dishes wash her hands...an hour an a half of work, did nothing, fixed nothing and charged me for 3.5!
I WILL NEVER USE THE GUYS AGAIN.
"We strive to provide the highest quality mechanical services and customer service. In this case, we were called because you had depleted your water supply and were experiencing very low water pressure or no water at all. In order to determine a cause, water had to be shut off and the well replenished, which typically takes several hours. We billed you only for the time our technician spent checking for possible leaks and other pressure- depleting sources by process of elimination. When we left, you had running water and a full well. None the less, in consideration of your obvious frustration we did not charge you the full $300.00 for the actual time we spent troubleshooting your lack of water problem- but instead, adjusted your bill down to nearly half of the actual amount owed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We hope that this explanation clarifies any misunderstanding of the services and accommodations that Mid-Coast Energy provided to you and that your summer was otherwise a very enjoyable one."
