"Guys were professional and knew their stuff. Arrived on time,too. Solved my issue in 15 minutes. 'Was completely unprepared for the over $500 bill! Gravity can make it difficult to make plumbing work in a garage if your plumbing is lower than your drainage point. Fortunately, there are ways to create drainage when adding a bathroom to a sunken garage. Plumbers will recommend using an upflush system that discharges into a pump from the back of the toilet.

Ideally, your sump pump discharge should run down a natural downhill slope 10 to 20 feet away from your home’s foundation. However, if your property is naturally flat, that might not be an option. Instead, you may be able to discharge it into a neighborhood storm drain or a nearby creek or pond. If that’s not possible, consider burying it underground.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

Your sump pump will discharge water through a discharge line or pipe. The discharge line should be placed at least 10–20 feet from the foundation to avoid any issues.

Basements with persistent moisture problems or flooding shouldn’t be finished until the moisture issues have been fixed. In addition, if your foundation is cracked, you have unmitigated radon levels, or you have asbestos or lead pipes, remediate the underlying problem before finishing your basement. Turning a basement into living space before fixing these issues can lead to serious health risks or structural damage.
