Please be advised that using Appalachian Landscaping is a risky business. Last spring I used Jonathon to replace a lawn that was had been destroyed by grubs. The project included removing the grub-infested sod, replacing it with new, and then seeding it. He also said that since the lawn was so big, he would need to set up a sprinkler system to reach all the lawn and put a timer on the hoses so that they would go off regularly. I immediately liked Jonathon as he seemed nice and professional, however, I soon found that he talks a good game but does not deliver. Jonathon dug up the lawn, but after doing so, he left it that way for a month. I was left with a dug up lawn and ripped up previously embedded water hoses that led to my garden. Also, he dug up an electricity connection to my garage. A mound of fresh loam stood unattended in my driveway for 3 weeks. Also, his tools and a wheelbarrow were left in my front driveway. On two occasions, he promised to show up and did not. Finally, out of frustration and after a string of broken promises from Jonathon, I wrote a negative review on this site. He called me, complained about the review, and I said I would take it down if he completed the job. He showed up the next day, but with a bad attitude, full of mansplaining and excusesâ revealing that he had other clients that took up his time and I was not on the top of his list. At one point, he blamed me for the delay in his work. (I still haven't figured that one out.) When Jonathon did show up, it was usually around 11 or 12 oclock, and then he would be gone by 4 or 5. Sometimes he left his helpers who worked for a while and then idly waited for him to pick them back up. He also refused to supply receipts or any explanation for the charges for the work. Finally, the job was done. He seeded the lawn. However, he did not supply a network of sprinklers as promised. Instead, he left just one that I had to move around the lawn in five different locations. There were no timers set to make the water go on and off. He said it was raining enough that I didn't need them, which was also not true. In addition, he dug too deeply in places, and not deeply enough in others. In some parts of my yard, he put down eight inches of loam, and in others only two. Grass doesn' t grow well in two inches of soil. After 6 weeks, my lawn was only partially formed. I informed Jonathon that there were patches of soil where the seed had not taken. He came with a worker who put down more seed. This seed did not take either, despite my watering religiously (remember, I'm moving one sprinkler five times each watering). When I complained that his reseed hadn't taken, I heard no more from him. This spring, my lawn is sparsely growing back. The patches of dirt still remain. Even after a fall feeding and putting lime down, it does not look healthy or lush. It is certainly not worth the thousands of dollars I paid to have a lawn replaced. You might also wonder what happened to my electric connection to my garage. Jonathon hired someone to fix it before he seeded the lawn, and it worked for a while. Now it has gone out again, and I'm left with his problem. My electrician will have to dig up the wires and reconnect them. So caution: Use Appalachian Lawn Service at your peril. Jonathon takes no pride in his work and cares little for customer satisfaction.
