"Leo of M&L Landscaping and Construction took a look at the job and knew it wasn’t going to be easy. He quoted and we ultimately agreed to go forward. I provided a down payment and about a week later he and his team arrived on site, manually excavated holes to pour concrete piers and poured the concrete. After cure time, his team installed Lally columns and necessary supporting beams and the job was done. Leo’s team stayed on task and were very committed to finishing the job professionally. Great, hard-working team and very professional."

"We needed to patch up our front steps where some bricks and mortar joints were loose. After putting the request into Angi's, David contacted us the same day and scheduled to come out to look at the work the following day. After meeting with us, David told us he would be able to finish it in 8-10 hours and actually was able to complete the work the next day! All in all, David was highly communicative and got the job done in less than 72 hours with high quality work! We would definitely use him again!"

"Wowza. That's what sums up my experience with Marc Michaud of Maine Coast Masonry. From start to finish, Marc was the consummate professional as well as just an overall super genuine person. I had Marc completely rebuild two entranceways to my home, as the stairs were extremely outdated. He took out the old concrete slabs and replaced them with beautiful stonework. One of the things I like best about Marc is that he's an authentic mason. Marc does things old school. He comes from a long line of masons and knows how do construct and fabricate using methodologies that work and last. I'm already looking at additional projects I want to hire him to do! He's that good."

"Quality work with a short time from when I called to when I had the work done. The repairman did a fine job. Expensive, though. Very expensive. I say that more as an indictment of the high inflationary period we are all suffering through."

"We had a duplex, 2 narrow driveways, that I couldn't get anyone to commit to. Finding a reliable plow guy is so difficult these days. 2 years in a row it was a nightmare finding someone. Aaron agreed and was very upfront about where the snow would go etc. He was responsive on snow days and accommodating when asked to start. We really appreciated his services and would recommend his company for snow removal services"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, brick should be clean before staining to ensure the best results. Dirt, dust, mold, mildew, and other substances on the brick can prevent the stain from properly adhering to it. Thoroughly cleaning the brick allows the stain to penetrate and bond to the surface more effectively. Cleaning typically involves using a pressure washer or a stiff brush with mild detergent. However, stubborn residue may require a specialized masonry cleaner.

On average, a quality exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes even longer. While it will look its best for a minimum of three to five years, its total lifespan depends on several factors. These include the quality and type of stain used, the condition of the brick, and the thoroughness of the surface preparation, such as proper cleaning. Following the manufacturer's application instructions and applying a sealant as a final step is also crucial. The stain's longevity can be affected by your location, climate, and the brick's exposure to harsh weather, high traffic, and other elements. Over time, the stain may begin to fade or look dingy due to weathering, erosion, dirt, and debris. Compared to paint, brick stain generally has a longer lifespan.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recommends placing a mailbox 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. If your lot is unusual, speak with town authorities or the local post office to determine the correct placement.

Landscape boulders, especially porous stones like sandstone or granite, can crack or break over time. Cracks occur when water seeps into the surface of the stone and freezes. The risk is highest when it rains during the day and temperatures freeze overnight since the moisture has time to penetrate deeper into the rock before expanding.
