"Outstanding work and timely install. MVP's experienced designers and installers have a wealth of knowledge and pay great attention to detail. MVP is an advanced lawn problem solving company which took on the the challenge of assessing our troublesome lawn; gathered all pertinent information; analyzed our objective; and formulated a comprehensive solution. The crew arrived prepared, organized and ready to execute the task. Mike, was extremely accommodating and the price point was very competitive for the level of service we required."

"It was a very fair quote; we're just not moving forward with the project right now.  The cost was $600.  That was for removing the old grass, putting in fresh dirt to build up the property; it's actually two properties that are side-by-side, and then they were going to put in sod.  So it was about $600 for the sod price and about half that for grass seed and straw.  Their price was actually on the lower end compared to a couple of other quotes I've gotten - or at least one other quote I've gotten.  For quality, just in attentiveness, the service, they were like with me in like scheduling but then like I want to say a day. Let's go with A, but you know that's based on just meeting the guy and receiving a quote, not actually having the work performed.  For professionalism, he showed up and he looked like a gardener, he spoke like a gardener; I'll give him an A.  I mean, there wasn't any like cursing or anything like that, and that's always a plus.  I hope to hire them in the future; we have another project come up that's actually a little bit more useful than leveling a yard out, if you know what I mean."

"Mr. Lemus has an excellent crew that gets right to work. We had 10 yards of mulch and three yards of Leafgrow delivered that morning and by the end of the day our flower beds were all edged and mulched, the lawn was aerated and has a top "dressing" of three yards of Leafgrow and the place looks fantastic. This was a long day for these guys -- finished up at about 6PM but wow I was super impressed. Mr. Lemus is friendly and very accommodating. His crew is polite and very respectful -- always yes, sir or yes ma'am. Really, I'd recommend them to anyone. The name says it all -- quality work at reasonable prices. Love these guys!"

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

Stick to your watering schedule. As long as new grass is getting plenty of water from irrigation, it shouldn’t need watering right after you cut it. Watch for signs like yellowing grass that shows a new lawn isn’t getting enough water and needs more regular irrigation. If you want to water after mowing, wait until the afternoon. Hot, direct sunlight can scorch grass more easily when it’s wet, so it’s better to wait until the day has cooled off.

Depending on the local climate and time of year, you only need to water your lawn by hand once or twice a week. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes with a hose and/or watering can. It doesn't require any electricity or complex irrigation systems and provides some exercise and time outdoors for free. You can also go for longer between waterings during rainy times.

The process to winterize your landscaping depends on the plants you have, but generally speaking, you should rake your lawn to avoid leaves from smothering your grass and leading to mold and fungi growth, wrap young trees to protect from fluctuating temperatures, and fertilize your lawn to provide some nutrients for the grass through the colder temperatures. You can also consider marking off small trees and shrubs to avoid accidentally damaging them with snow removal tools.

If your grass is stressed from being over-trimmed, try watering it heavily and then allowing it to recover for at least two weeks before mowing again. If you notice brown patches where the grass has died off because it’s too short, you should remove the dead grass and overseed the area. Leaving dead patches can invite weeds and other problems, so if you want a totally green lawn, getting rid of dead patches should include removing the dead sections before reseeding the area.

A standard home lawn mower with sharp blades can handle a thin layer of leaves without issue. You may need to make a couple of passes within several days to mulch leaves down, but your mower shouldn’t struggle. If your mower comes with a mulching kit, like an attachment to blow leaves out the side, that’s a good sign it’s ready for fall leaves. Set your mower to the highest or near-highest height for this project so it focuses on the leaves rather than the grass below.
