"CG Arborist Services did an outstanding job trimming the trees in my yard. They arrived as scheduled and stayed the entire day trimming the 12 plus trees in my yard, one of which I actually had them cut down completely. Not only did they do a great job trimming and cutting down my trees, but they also did a great job cleaning up afterwards, too. I would highly recommend CG Arborist Services to anyone looking to have professional tree work done in their yard at an excellent price."

"Mike Thomas, the owner/operator responded to my call promptly. He came to my home within a few days and presented me with a written statement of cost on completion. My neighbors and I were able to schedule the stump grinding within a short period of time that fit our schedule. The work was completed as described in the work order. Mike arrived on time and completed the job in a neat and orderly fashion. I would recommend him to anyone including family and friends."

Customers say: Quick response

"If it was possible to give more than 5 stars, I would! Leif is a dedicated professional, knowledgeable, personable and the man to get the project done right. Took down 3 sizable trees and left no evidence he was even here. If you want the job done right, he's the guy to call. Very very happy with his work and commitment to nature. He'll be my first call for any future needs. Thank you Leif!!!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Leaving a dead tree can expose your other trees to potential diseases, pests, and fungi, and it can also be a hazard. If your tree is dead, then you should hire a tree maintenance service to remove it. Cutting down trees is extremely dangerous, and a professional can ensure no one gets hurt and there is no damage to your property. Tree removal costs between $200 and $2,000 and will prevent future issues and keep you and your property safe.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.
