"Bought a heat pump from them 3 years ago. Cooling has never worked in the summer, heating fails twice every year in winter. Even when it works it can't heat the house over 65 degrees. The problem is always the same, a leak in the line they installed. Instead of fixing the leak, they refill the refrigerant every time and charge me a few hundred dollars. Every time I have helpfully told them about the continuing leak issue, but they don't listen. Now that the heat pump is out of warranty they are recommending a $3000 repair of the problem they should have fixed three years ago."

In most parts of the country, it’s required by law that a licensed electrician be the one to connect your ceiling fan if the ceiling hasn’t already been wired to support one. We strongly recommend going with a professional if you need to install wiring into your home to power a ceiling fan.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

The basic cost to install a ceiling fan ranges from $145 to $355 and averages $250. If the installation has higher demands, such as new or complex wiring, your bill will likely be on the higher end. Other factors, such as an included light kit, installing switches, and ease of access can also affect the final cost.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.
