"We hired Bob to remove and install a set of drop down attic stairs. He responded to my first email inquiry and came out to provide an estimate. He was clear that he charged for the estimate, and if hired, a portion of the estimate would be taken off the bill. He provided input on the brand of stairs that we purchase based on his previous experience. We purchased the stairs from Home Depot and once we had picked them up, let Bob know we were ready to schedule an installation date. We was able to fit us in quickly. The installation went smoothly and was within the range of the estimate he had provided. He cleaned up the area, leaving it cleaner than we he had arrived. We will use him again for future projects."

"Mark Bork, the owner, was absolutely fantastic. Not only was he very competent but he was also personable and a really nice guy. He actually went beyond what he was called out to do and also performed an additional service at no extra cost. Mark just works on central vacuum systems exclusively and has been doing so for something like 20 or 30 years. He really knows his craft. I strongly recommend hiring Mark as I am confident that you will not be disappointed."

"My kitchen and bathroom renovations are in process. United Home Solutions was willing to step into renovations in process when the first contractor could not continue. The carpentry team is well along with installation of cabinets, trim and baseboards and will build custom shelving. The quality of the work is excellent. They worked with me to choose trim compatible with original trim in my 1860 clapboard home and it looks great! The board and plaster team closed up the remaining spaces with smooth walls. The countertop team and painter have been scheduled. These are good people to work with on a project that has endless decisions in my older home as they discuss the possibilities and know how to implement decisions reached."

"The entire process was surprisingly simple, quick and reasonably affordable. Top Notch was one out of three
vendors I contacted and was the first to get right back to me hours after my first telephone call.
I simply contacted Top Notch on 5/4/15, received estimate on
5/7/2015.  The project began on 5/12 completed by 5/15/2015.
Tasks included carpet to hardwood conversion, bathroom upgrade
sink and shower restoration as well as paint job.
Awesome Job

"Ryan came over to my house to install two of my televisions. He was nicely dressed and very professional in his demeanor ( he even took off his boots upon entering the house!) He was supposed to arrive at 3:30 for installation, but was actually 20 minutes early because his previous installation ended early. He called beforehand and made sure it was alright with me to come early ( very courteous). He started by asking me, in more detail, about where I wanted my TV's and got started right away after we finished conversing. He came with his own tools and laid down floor covers so as not to mess up my house ( he even vacuumed afterwards!!) . He was quick and efficient and knew how to program my remotes ( something I am very lost about).
Ryan was very courteous, clean and respectful. The installation went very well and I am very happy with the results. I will definitely hire Ryan in the future for my installations.

Central Vacuum Cleaners questions, answered by experts

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.
