"Before installing a mini-split, the sales person told me that I'd need to cut down an interior shelf to a specific height. I paid a handyman $400 to do exactly what the sales person instructed. Later on, N.E.T.R. came and did the installation; however, AFTER the installation, a technician told me that they hadn't accounted for the vent opening and closing and that the shelf would need to be further cut down. As you can imagine, this type of service is rather ridiculous. If they knew that the shelf would need further cutting, they should have NOT installed the unit. I have called N.E.T.R. six (6) times in three weeks, and no one has called me back about this issue. After paying for the unit and for a handyman, it's ridiculous that I have AC that is compromised because no one with the company thought to properly measure the space so that the work by the handyman could be done once. At this point, I'd like for N.E.T.R. to take care of this for me."

While diesel is relatively stable, it won’t last nearly as long as propane and you may have to replace it if it sits unused for too long. Diesel can sometimes struggle to work efficiently or start engines during especially cold weather, so it’s not the best choice for every climate. Compared to fuels like propane and natural gas, diesel generators tend to be noisier and create more exhaust, which isn’t always ideal for home use.
As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
You can determine what size generator you need by listing the various appliances it will power during an outage. Write down the start-up watt usage, and then add them all together.
A 7,500-watt generator will run your refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits without a problem. However, you’ll need an extra 3,000 to 4,500 watts to run your water heater and another 5,000 to 25,000 watts to run your electric furnace. In these instances, a whole-home generator is your best bet for running your critical equipment.
Natural gas generators are designed to run for extended periods of time, such as power outages during a natural disaster. Since there’s no limit to the supply of natural gas, they don’t need to stop for refills. However, generators do need maintenance, including pauses to check and add oil. Constantly running them will also cause a lot more wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.
A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.
