"I’d put off fixing a hole in our kitchen ceiling for months, assuming it would be a multi-day hassle with furniture to move and dust everywhere. I finally found Marcio and Flavio at Master Plastering through Angi.com — first-time user, and wow, what a great experience. They were responsive, insured, and incredibly easy to work with. I asked for quotes on Wednesday, signed on Friday, and by Monday night the job was done — plastered, painted, spotless, and perfect. No mess, no stress, just efficient, high-quality work. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for fast, professional results."

We are a fully insured company with skilled craftsmen who have been working together for 14 years to bring you quality workmanship, experience in residential and commercial projects, and confidence in our abilities to deliver a professionally completed job. Our goal is to provide excellent plastering services with every project. We work with each customer personally to meet their requests and complete the job to their total satisfaction.

"Working with Derek and his team was great. The ceiling repair was being paid for by the HOA master insurance carrier, and I was so thankful Derek was willing to take the job, despite knowing that the payment process was going through insurance, and was delayed. He was very kind, patient, understanding, timely with replies, and always followed through with his word. He actually restored my faith that there are honest contractors out there. His quote was more than fair, and his team traveled like 2, 2.5 hours for the job. His guys were always on time, very personable, and professional. They also went above and beyond by painting the walls, even though that wasn't part of the quote. Overall, Derek & his team are very trustworthy, reliable, fair, and all around kind. I would hands down call them again & refer them, especially because there are a lot of dishonest contractors out there. Thanks Derek & team! Cheers!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The two most common types of drywall are ½-inch and ⅝-inch thick white or gray drywall. Most walls are ⅝-inch thick because the drywall is slightly more resistant to damage and it helps dampen sound considerably. It’s also much heavier, which is why most ceilings are ½-inch thick. There are special use cases where you want to use ⅝-inch thick drywall for ceilings, such as between a garage and living space, and the ceiling above a finished basement.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.

You can drywall an unheated garage because the material handles cold temperatures perfectly well. There are no risks or downsides to installing drywall in a garage that is not heated, and the material stands up to moisture and other elements quite well. Drywall will protect your unheated garage's electric wires and cables and add fire protection. However, for effective bonding, you should install drywall at a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.

It’s a pretty good idea to have drywall corners, also called drywall beading. Drywall is a pretty brittle material and corners tend to be rubbed up against it often. Rather quickly, the edges will start crumbling and you’ll need to replace the entire panel, or add beads on top and repaint the wall. Drywall beads—which are inexpensive—provide long-term support for the drywall and protect your investment.
