"I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars. Incredible service, incredible responsiveness and amazingly fair price . Iâ ve owned several homes over the past 40 years and have had dozens and dozens of service providers perform work at my homes. No one was ever been better than Pete, the owner of Atlantic Central Vacuum. He is committed to providing quality services. We had a challenging repair problem and he simply wouldnâ t give up until it was completed at what I consider to be a very fair price"

"Mark gave me a call about my central vacumn system. The system was not sucking effectively and instead of suggesting a new system like the first guy who gave me a call from Angie?s list, he troubleshooted the problem. He said it was an easy fix and offered up to come fix it but insisted it was something I can do. I did what he said and had my vacuum acting like brand new in 10 minutes. Thank you, Mark, for knowing your stuff, guiding me and not just acting like we needed to go to the extreme worse case scenario and up selling me. Looking forward to doing business again in the future."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning, sealing, and inspections help identify problems early and maintain aesthetics.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space
