"Gabby did amazing work! We wanted to convert a normal coat closet in our dining room into a built-in display and storage hutch. We called a couple other contractors and they quoted us between $5,000 and $8,000. Gabby came in for a quote, we described what we were looking for, and he could do exactly what we wanted for less than half the other quotes. Gabby did a quick sketch for our reference and was also very accommodating of some design changes late in the process. Installation was went quick and without a problem. The quality of the cabinet is fantastic and it looks better than we had even imagined. He was also very friendly and communication was easy. Can't recommend his work enough."

"Mike and his team did a fantastic job on our kitchen - it was a complete transformation. We had a great layout, but the color was dark and dated. Mike was easy to communicate with and recommended a number of other vendors we worked with, who all did a fantastic job. We would highly recommend Kitchen Tuneup Newton for anyone looking to spruce up their kitchen without going through an entire remodel."

"Great. Larry listen to what I wanted. Made some suggestions and we went from there. He was very professional and also very detailed He took his time and did the job right. Some of the staid were cracked and all were very noisy. Larry promised they would be very quiet when done. He kept that promise. The stairs are beautiful and very quiet. We highly recommend him and will use him again."

Customers say: Quick response

"Amazing. Gorgeous. Transforming. What else can we say about Rory and the guys at Beautiful Finish? Our kitchen looks spectacular with the newly finished upper cabinets, Turned ugly brown into softly uplifting calm white with new doors, soft-close hinges. A pantry cabinet upgraded to pull-out shelves that store many times the old cabinet. They worked quickly, protecting all surfaces, and were more than on-time with their work. Most importantly, if they didn't answer the phone on the second ring, they returned the call asap. HIRE THESE GUYS!!!!"

"Sandor and his team are very nice and knowledgeable people to work with. Adding a bathroom and kitchenette in the basement was not easy especially with the town, but Sandor made it very successfully. Thanks again Sandor"

Closets questions, answered by experts

You can budget a little less money for how to build a closet with wire shelves than with wood shelves. Some people don’t like the aesthetics that wire shelves provide, though, meaning they’ll gladly spend a little more to add wood shelves to the build. If you decide to buy pre-made wire shelves instead of building custom-sized wood shelves, you’ll be restricted in the closet shelving dimensions you can use.

You can modernize an old-looking closet by just painting it, but beyond that, consider electric elements like recessed or accent lighting. If this is a large and deep closet, you can consider adding an island to the middle or a nice ottoman on a rug. Luxury closets will have even more items, like felt-lined drawers for watches and jewelry, in-wall safes, electronic shoe storage, or a tablet catalog of their items.

Some features and upgrades you can add (some of which increase the closet’s value) are: modular shelving, motion-activated lighting, climate control, custom lighting, cigar humidors, revolving shoe racks, jewelry shelves, custom woodwork, and built-in laundry hampers. While only truly luxury closets have all of these, many custom closets have at least one special feature listed above.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.
