Small jobs welcome

"Very professional from the first call to the finish. He was extremely accommodating and thorough in explaining all that is involved with the different type of sealers. He was the only one who took the time to do this. He did a wonderful job and takes extreme pride in his work as well as very careful with our property. Would recommend him to everyone"

"I wish there were more than 5 stars available! Due to the bad weather we have been having, it took a little while to get started, but once the job began, it could not have gone better. Eric and his crew arrived on the day promised and completely tore up the old driveway, expertly preparing the new base. They even went so far as to removed the old rocks and ledge that were underlying the original surface, to make sure the new driveway would be perfect. The next morning, they were back and poured a new asphalt driveway, sloping it expertly to insure proper water drainage. I even got a follow-up phone call the next day to make sure I was satisfied with the work. I am more than pleased with the way my new driveway looks. It was expertly done and looks terrific. I can't recommend Eric and his crew highly enough. Well done, guys!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

Depending on project size, typically 1 to 3 days, including preparation and installation.

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

Yes, a paved or repaved driveway can boost your home's value by increasing its curb appeal and the functionality of your outdoor space. A new driveway can add anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 to a property's value. An old, crumbling driveway can be a red flag for potential buyers and inspectors.

The amount of value added depends on the materials used, the design, and local market conditions. Concrete is often cited as adding the most value due to its long lifespan, though asphalt may be more desirable in colder climates. The return on investment is greatest when replacing a driveway that is in poor condition; repaving a driveway that is already in good shape will not yield as significant an increase in value.
