"Paul was fantastic! He did an excellent job installing 4 ceiling fans for us. He kept me updated on what steps were needed in each location (e.g., removing existing track lighting, installing a fan box, extending the wiring, etc.) and worked efficiently. Paul was also kind enough to explain things to me, which I really appreciated. He has been in the field for a long time and is a wealth of knowledge. I will definitely reach out to Paul for future projects involving electrical!"

"Michael installed bathroom vanity lights and ceiling fans in two bathrooms and added new outlets and switches. He also was able to fix an intermittent problem that I had lived with for years. The work was top notch, and when he spent less time than his quote was based on, he told me about it and took 20% off the price I agreed to. I highly recommend him."

"To begin with, Saulo was quick to visit and provided a very reasonable quote. He converted our entire house lights to recessed lights. He was very professional and prompt. He started and finished on time. Saulo and his team were courteous, thorough, and attentive. Both work quality and customer service were great. I would highly recommend them!"

"Is there a higher rating than “A?” If I mash the buttons harder, will it unlock an “Ultra-Mega A?” That should be a thing. What can I say that hasn’t been said already? I needed experts with creative solutions, and I got them. I called Superior for my master bath project based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews I found here, and from beginning to end, Jane and Brandon showed the "A” rating with their courtesy, professionalism and expertise. Responses were prompt, visits were on schedule and all budgeting was completely transparent with no surprises. From planning to materials acquisition to execution, all work was performed with an attention to detail that went beyond the scope of the job; they showed a genuine concern for our time, our home and our satisfaction that’s as refreshing as it is rare. Yes, they’re a busy crew, and deservedly so. Once you’ve worked with them, you’ll see that their schedule is a result of their focus; you’ll be glad you waited to have that kind of attention turned to you. Ultra-Mega A. Get on that, Angie."

"Todd built a beautiful new ¾ bathroom and minibar in our basement. The job involved all new plumbing and a ceiling fan vented to the outside. It was a challenging job because of a low ceiling and other problems, but Todd came up with innovative solutions for all of the hurdles we ran into. This is the second project that Todd has handled for us, and we feel very fortunate to have found him. His workmanship is outstanding, he listens patiently to our questions and preferences, and he goes out of his way to make sure we are happy. His fees are also very reasonable. Todd is a real professional and it’s a pleasure to work with him; I would strongly recommend him for any remodeling project."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.
