Trefler's has been owned and operated by the Trefler family since 1921. It all began in Germany, when Abraham Trefler began a small business for himself building and restoring furniture. Abraham’s son, Eric, was one of the few survivors of the camps in Poland and Germany during WWII. Upon his liberation, he left Europe for New York, and finally settled in Boston, MA. After spending some time working as a furniture restorer for the antique dealers on Beacon Street, he opened his own business. Using the expertise he learned from his father back in Germany, he quickly became renowned for his uncanny ability to restore almost any kind of art object. Today, Trefler’s is still owned and operated by the Trefler family. We expertly mix century-old techniques with modern restoration technology to create some of the best repairs in the world. We are a family company that has been in business since 1988. We currently employ 15 people out of a 12,000 sq/ft facility. We have our own in-house woodworking shop, wood refinishing shop, and upholstery, and stitching workrooms. We specialize in many aspects of the upholstery trade such as custom furniture, reupholstery, slip covers, headboards, antiques, restorations, window treatments, cushions and marine upholstery. We practice the true to tradition art of upholstery which has been passed down by master upholsterers. Our foundation is rooted in old world craftsmanship and we pay particular attention to detail. Our established business relations include decorators, designers, architechs, residential, inns , bed and breakfasts, professional companies and the boating community. We provide in person free estimates and free delivery services for all upholstery projects within a 50 mile radius, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and other areas outside of the 50 miles are subject to transportation and/or shipping fees. We also provide free estimates via email for upholstery inquiries with an attached subject photo. Decorator services for fabric selections are complementary.
