"This was my first time having wallpaper in my home and Town & Country Interiors was wonderful. They helped me figure out how much to order, responded promptly and flexibly for scheduling, and were affordable for installation. I would definitely use them again for future wallpaper projects and would recommend to anyone."

"So wonderful to work with. They did the painting and wallpaper in my nursery and it came out perfectly, better than I was hoping. They made sure I ordered my wall mural with the correct dimensions and not only was the measurement spot on, but the application of the panels was seamless. Even added a cute wallpaper detail to my light switch cover AND put the crib in the room together. Would absolutely work with again"

"After purchasing our new home, we needed someone to come in to strip wallpaper in a few rooms of our house and to paint as much of the interior as we could afford. We hired Big Brush Painting after meeting with a number of painters and evaluating quotes for a few simple reasons. First, their review history here on Angie's List is stellar. Second, they were exceedingly punctual in their emails, phone calls, and their first visit to the house. Third, they were friendly, straightforward and down-to-earth. And finally, their price simply couldn't be beat. Their prices for painting were on par with or lower than most of the painters we spoke with, but their price for wallpaper stripping was less than half what others were charging. Initially we were skeptical about this, but after meeting with Rish and Rodrigo about the condition of our walls, we felt confidant in their recommendations and time estimates. We hired them to strip all of the wallpaper (living room, dining room, foyer, stairwell and upstairs/downstairs hallways), and then to paint the living room, foyer, stairwell and upstairs/downstairs hallways. We intended to paint the four bedrooms and the dining room ourselves, but in the end we ran out of time so we asked Rodrigo to add the dining room to his job. They worked very fast, and we're beyond pleased with quality of the results. On top of that, on more than one occasion Rodrigo gave us helpful painting tips, let us use a few of his tools and supplies, and rescued us from making colossal mistakes in our own work, even going so far as to patch all the way around a damaged doorway in one of the rooms we were working on. I won't hesitate to use Big Brush again or to recommend them to anyone in need of this type of work. They were well worth the money we spent."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Putting up new wallpaper tends to take one to two days, depending on the size of the area, whether old paper needs to be removed, and if there is any damage to walls that needs to be smoothed over or fixed.

There can be too much of a good thing when it comes to accent walls, so avoid creating one in every room in your house. Some rooms, like bathrooms and kitchens, don’t naturally lend themselves to accent walls, so it’s best to skip them there. Of course, your home should reflect your own sense of style, so if accent walls in multiple rooms appeal to you, there’s no hard-and-fast rule forbidding it.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

To determine how many rolls of peel-and-stick wallpaper you need, measure the square footage of the walls you’re covering and divide that by the square footage that each roll covers. Add 10% to 20% of your total square footage to account for pattern matching or damage while installing.

Hiring a professional wallpaper hanger is usually a worthwhile idea because, while the application of wallpaper itself is easy, getting the finished product to look good is complicated and takes a lot of practice and patience. A professional wallpaper hanger will not only be able to hang your wallpaper seamlessly, but they will also get an even application of wallpaper paste to avoid bubbling and imperfections immediately and over time. Plus, they can provide their professional opinion on whether to remove or wallpaper over an existing layer of wallpaper.
