"Awesome! He practically knows how to do anything!! I had him doing my husband’s to do list and he got about half of it done in one day. From there I kept adding to the list once I saw how good he was. My only concern I had/have is that he works by the hour instead of quoting a price for the job. I was pleased at how well he worked and the length of time it took to get the job done. He even shops for any parts you may need but be prepared to pay for that time since it is time he could be on a job. He worked on electrical and plumbing jobs and carpentry and even things like hanging TV’s on the wall! I definitely would recommend him!!"

"Simply outstanding!!! Every step in the process was timely and completed as promised. Every previous carpenter had recommended replacing the entrance door assembly, which would have cost three or more times the price to fix the problem. COMPLETED ON TIME AND BUDGET AS AGREED UPON!!! Canâ t say enough about my SATISFACTION!! SUPER â ¼ï¸ â ¼ï¸ â ¼ï¸"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.
