Satin paint is better for high-traffic spaces that need to hold up to a lot of cleaning. It’s also best for spaces where walls are free of imperfections since the light reflecting off a glossy satin finish will highlight them even more. On the other end of the spectrum, think of flat paint for walls with dents or divots you want to conceal. Since flat paint isn’t as strong as satin paint, it’s not great for spaces that need a lot of cleaning.

You should repaint the interior of your house every 2 to 7 years, depending on which room needs repainting and how it's used.  High-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms need more frequent repainting—typically every 2 or 3 years. Satin and eggshell sheens are often recommended for siding since their lightly reflective finish can help hide imperfections while being relatively easy to clean. Semi-gloss sheen is a great fit for trim since it’s incredibly easy to clean and more durable and moisture-resistant than satin and eggshell, but if you use it for the entire surface, its more reflective properties can highlight imperfections. This is also why high-glass sheen isn’t a great fit for the entire surface.
