"Answered call live. Scheduled me in same week. Was prompt, curteous, professional. Came with a lot of equipment and safety gear. Took samples around water logged window seal. Used a moisture meter and found significant issues. Sent lab samples out same day and found dangerous levels of mold. Saved my health and my office lease. Can't recommend Jason Fontenot and Mold Man Solutions enough!!"

The owner was very kind and personable. I would hire him again and would recommend him to anyone else. Thank you for the great service!"

"A roof leak caused water damage and black mold growth in my 4x9 closet off the main bathroom. I was entirely impressed and happy with the highly skilled and professional work performed by DryMax, from assessment by Nicole, prompt communications with Frances, to the completion of the job. DAY ONE: Amanda and Roderick, very friendly, worked tirelessly for 10 hours straight, hardly taking a break. After cordoning off the bathroom with plastic sheeting to prevent debris from entering the bedroom, and encasing the closet itself, they tore apart the ceiling, insulation, and one wall of the closet. A powerful vacuum removed debris through 12"-diam. tubing from the closet and out the bathroom window, into bags which they hauled away at the end of the day. The bathroom was spotless when they left. DAY TWO: Amanda returned to spray and scrape off mold from the exposed joists, and she set up a dehumidifier to run for a few days to dry out the wood. LAST DAY: Amanda checked the moisture levels of the roof joists, better than acceptable, did a final cleanup and removed all equipment. Thanks, DryMax! I won't hesitate for a second to recommend your services."

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

According to the EPA, mold grows within 24 to 48 hours if left untreated after a water leak. So unless you notice the leak and stop it right away, you only have a day or so before mold is a real concern. If you don’t notice the leak, it can take about three weeks for the mold spores to become visible. That means you’ve likely had an active mold infection for a few weeks by the time you notice discoloration.

Although both bleach and vinegar are effective in killing mold on wood, vinegar is generally considered the better option. Bleach is a potent disinfectant that can swiftly and effectively eradicate most types of mold on wooden surfaces. However, diluting it with water and using it in a well-ventilated space while wearing protective gear is crucial as it can be harsh and potentially harm the wood's finish or discolor it.

On the other hand, vinegar is a gentler and more natural alternative that can successfully kill mold, but it may take longer and require multiple applications for persistent infestations. Vinegar is a safer option that is less likely to cause damage to wooden surfaces, making it an excellent choice for delicate areas or when a milder approach is preferred.

It’s possible to scrub mold off of visible surfaces yourself, but it’s not usually a good idea. Mold is not only a potential health risk, but it’s also difficult to treat in its entirety, especially because it can grow behind walls and in other hidden areas a DIYer might miss. Since mold is a serious and often pervasive issue, you should hire a professional that will remove all of the mold—including any that might be hidden—run industrial air scrubbers to remove airborne particles, and complete mold testing to ensure the underlying problem is solved.

Areas of your home may provide an ideal environment for green or black mold. Most molds love moisture and will thrive in wet or damp areas. Some types of mold, such as Stachybotrys chartarum, grow well on materials commonly used in homes, such as gypsum board and wood. Mold may also grow in areas where there are leaks, such as in bathrooms, kitchens, or basements.

To remove mold from fabric that’s part of your wood furniture, the best option is to take the fabric off and place it in the washing machine. If you cannot take the fabric off, it helps to move the furniture out into the sun. Use a high-quality vacuum to remove any mold spores that are present. You can try spraying the mold with a 50/50 vinegar-water mixture. Hydrogen peroxide is also a possibility for removing mold from fabric, but it could damage certain types of fabric.
