"I live in an area where we have well water.  The water periodically comes out a rust color.  Through the years of my water coming out this color, it had severely discolored my tub and shower.  It was so severe, that my white tub was taking on a faux marble effect.  All underneath the jets/filter in my tub had drip marks. I had bought every cleaner on the market to try and make my tub and shower white again but had no luck.
