Went well with a few issues with kitchen cabinets and plumbing that were resolved satisfactorily. The final result looks great with the exception of the tile downstairs where the grout is coming out. We have existing tile in the bathroom (22 years) where grout is perfect and bathroom where tile was replaced where grout was perfect before tile was replaced. Grout issues started when Kitchens by Design was still working here and they would try to fix but continued to have problems. We used Steve to do all renovations, including flooring, to avoid having to deL with multiple contractors. House is raised, we used Schluter Ditra as recommended, used Pro Source for flooring who was recommended by Kitchens by design. Details such as square footage was was provided by Steve to Pro Source. We just picked out the flooring / tile with grout colors. When we started noticing grout coming out of the joints, Steve asked us if we picked out sanded or un-sanded grout. I told him that we only picked out colors and that I would have no idea which grout would be appropriate. We did not even specify the joint spacing. It he did receive the wrong grout, he should have said something before using as he is the professional. If grout is coming out now, how will it look in another 22 years. The amount quoted here was for Kitchens by Design labor and kitchen cabinets and did not include all materials which we paid. Contacted Steve numerous times but can't seem to get him out to rectify the problems. We spent premium money, never questioned Steve's recommendations, and now we are disappointed that problems have not been fixed. If the flooring was fixed, we would be satisfied.

Steve Barras arrived at our home as he promised and spent 2 hours with us asking questions of what we wanted in an updated kitchen and made a basic sketch. The following week we went to his showroom, saw his 3-D designs, he made some changes from our suggestions and printed out the finished designs. He later gave us a quote on the estimated cost. We are very pleased with the work that Steve put into this project and would recommend him highly.

We really liked that man. We were very pleased. The only thing is we could never get the digital. We could not connect with it. The man is very nice. He has been here several times and I think we are going to use him. He was very good with showing us his design on paper. I think he is a very honest man. I appreciated his honesty.

Steve was very thorough with measurements and with suggestions as to what the possibilities were. I received two computer generated layouts, one of which showed Steve's ideas and one of which I though might work. I also received an estimate of what the labor and rough materials would cost. It was a great kick start for something I have been dragging my feet on for quite a while.

Steve is a real pleasure to work with. To begin, we had ideas for our out-dated shower. He listened patiently and did an initial design based on what we'd said. As we talked, he gave us ideas and encouraged us to go to sources for tile, counter tops and hardware, and all had suggestions for our project. Steve did another design as our plans evolved and changed significantly. He was quick to offer suggestions and to tell us when something wouldn't work, and why. His workmen were professional, trustworthy and talented. We are perfectionists, and whenever we found something we wanted done differently, or when we found the few inevitable errors, Steve said, "No problem. We want you to be happy." and re-did it. Steve made a rounded seat for two corners in the shower, and designed vertical tiles around the border. We didn't want anything under the seats, so he figured out how to make a sturdy, safe seat as we wanted. We left for vacation during construction, and Steve securely managed use of our key. There was never an issue about security. All is now finished, and we're delighted with the result! The waterproofing is excellent, and the drainage from the seats and shower itself are perfect. The inspector said he never worries about Steve's work. The bathroom is really beautiful! Steve converted a wall to a half-wall, tiled the entire floor, drilled a drain connection through the pad to ensure proper drainage, tiled the shower, replaced toilet and sink, moved an air conditioning vent, installed heater/fan/light, painted, placed towel racks and safety bars (all directly into studs for optimal strength) and replaced faucets. The shower apparatus had to be moved to a different wall.

Excellent! Steve was wonderful and his crew was great. We went high end with the kitchen (relatively speaking) because we are never doing another one; we couldn't be happier with the results. Prices ran over estimate due to changes that expanded the scope of work. We decided to replace a lot more flooring than the original estimate called for, and we replaced the back door so the new flooring would stay nice and dry. Excellent craftsmanship and good advice during the process (we've never done this before).

"After several attempts to contact this customer with no success I decided to drive out to his house. When I first arrived the first thing he said was that his wife was upset at him and she wasn't wanting to remodel. He said that she wouldn't meet us and that he didn't know if any work was going to be done. So I just measured the kitchen and told him that I would wait to hear from him if they decided to remodel the kitchen. I've never heard from him again."

We hired Steve for our master bathroom renovation. His price was more reasonable than any of the other estimates we received and he did very good quality work. He wanted everything to be perfect and up to our standards and worked with us until it was. His communication was excellent. He would get back to me immediately if I called with a question and would check in with me every day to keep me posted on where they were in the process and what would be happening the next day. Any little things that we asked him to fix he did so immediately without hesitation. After our marble counter top was installed there was a gap between it and the wall (no fault of his, the wall was bowed). We were willing to live with it but Steve called me the next morning and said he was up thinking about it all night and wanted to fix it, and that he did. Steve is an honest, hard working man and is very much a person of his word, which became very important to us through this process. You will not go wrong in your decision to hire he and his team.

Steve and his team are very knowledgeable and hard working.
Steve supervised EVERY step of the project communicating with his team constantly.

There was NEVER a day when the guys showed up late or not at all.
Daily the work area was left spotless with no issues.

The team did an outstanding job, the completed project looks GREAT.!
I would recommend Kitchens by Design,

I found Steve on Angie's List. I have a master bathroom that had a horrible sheetrock job. Steve assured me that he could fix it by skimming and repainting. I purchased the 299.00 deal directly from Steve. He started the job around 8ish skimming is what I thought he was doing. Then he went on to spreading the sheetrock mud. He stopped for lunch and that's when I found out he is 70 years old and had just had hip reconstruction surgery. He said this is his first job since then. I thought he was sanding and skimming the walls (only one wall was really bad and one part of the ceiling. He left at 4. Of course the job was not done but my vanity was out and my alarm was disconnected when he pulled out a wire. A lot of time was spent trying to reconnect my alarm, So his 8 hours wasn't 8 hours. I couldn't leave the room that way and paid another 299 and bought another day, which I was assured it would be perfect. It's not. The room is awful. The walls are just as bad as when it started. He brought his assistant who smoked a lot and Steve left because he forgot something and when I saw the assistant standing outside smoking I asked about Steve and he said he went somewhere and didn't know when he'd be back so the assistant did nothing. Today my bathroom walls are horrible, he refused to reconnect my vanity because he said it would be more than the time I paid for, even though again most of the time was spent smoking cigarettes and trying to fix the alarm he broke. His assistant hung 6 shutters which should be falling off any day now. He painted over flaking paint that Steve said he would sand and which the assistant said he did but didn't.  Now I have a horrible bathroom, no vanity, my alarm doesn't work and Steve is 600.00 richer. I wish I'd saved my money and hired a real contractor. I have to come up with more money to pay to have all of this done again. Thanks Angie's List.

"We were sorry and surprised to hear of Ms [Member Name Removed]'s complaints; She was very pleased when we left. We were hired for 8 hours, which became 16 hours, to correct sloppy work in the bathroom that was previously done by someone else. Ms [Member Name Removed] wanted us to use her sheetrock mud and paint, however, when I opened her mud, it was covered with mildew, so I did leave the job to purchase new sheetrock mud. Before we began the job, I explained to Ms. [Member Name Removed], that the bathroom walls could not be properly finished in one pass of sheetrock mud, but it would take 2 or 3 passes. After skimming the walls one time, I strongly urged her to let me do one more pass, but she refused because she did not want to spend the money. She just wanted us to paint, and she did not want 1 prime coat and 2 top coats that was needed, but she insisted that we paint only 1 coat and she would do the other coats. Regarding the alarm, the wire was covered by a lump of sheetrock mud, and when we scraped the walls, the wire was severed, but we repaired the wire and it was working when we left. We installed the vanity cabinet that Ms [Member Name Removed] bought, but could not install the sink and faucet because she bought the wrong faucet. Since we were there, Ms [Member Name Removed] wanted us to spruce of the front of her house also. We hung shutters she bought with the anchors that came with the shutters, we painted the casing on the front door and garage door, and painted the panels under the windows. I explained to her that the panels needed to be sanded to the wood, but she did not want us to spend the time, therefore we scraped the loose paint off and painted the panels. We were hired for 16 manhours and we worked 20 manhours, which includes 4 manhours at no charge, to complete what Ms [Member Name Removed] asked us to do. I had offered to go back to her house to install the sink and faucet when she gets a faucet that fits, and had received no response except this distorted and untrue review."

Steve Barrios is very honest and very trustworthy. He does everything he can to please people and make them feel good about the work that he does. We had some wood that was rotten that you couldn't really see and he fixed that. He does really good work and really takes care of people. We are going to have him pull our old bathroom out and replace it. His price is very reasonable. He really doesn't want to do jobs with cheap materials, he wants you to have material that will last, which I think is a good thing.
