"I love my wood fence! It looks great! I'm so glad I went with Blouin. Mr. Mike is such a nice man and very knowledgeable. It was a breeze dealing with him! They have really hard workers. They got the job done in two days. I was impressed!"

"The actual name of the company is Fences.US Great level of craftsmanship on the install. They ran into numerous issues with my sprinkler system and very large tree roots, but seamlessly called for additional help and only altered the quote by $300. The only downside is that I requested fence boards that match an existing fence, but the new boards were not stained or weather-treated."

"EXCELLENT! They did everything we expected, and More! Definitely a honest, reliable, and professional company. The crew showed up every morning as scheduled. They also coordinated the tree removal with Entergy, due to the live wires involved. My yard was left impeccable when the crew knocked off. I highly recommend SureCatch Industries!!"

"I am extremely pleased with my experience with Mr. Flynn. He was very professional came out and gave me an estimate. Double checked his estimate. Brought all the supplies tore down the old fence and posts, dug them up, put in new posts, concreting them in. Hand built the entire fence. Very good job. Excellent employee work with him. Got the job done in one day disposed of the old fence and post careful about my yard and other people’s yards that were adjacent to mine. Let me know whenever he was coming or being late. It was an awesome experience. I would highly recommend him and his company, Audubon fence and deck. I will be calling him back to do additional updates such as my gate and another section of fencing at a later time."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

If you’re part of a homeowners association (HOA), you’ll need to speak with them regarding your fence repairs prior to starting work. Sometimes, you’ll need HOA approval to start repairs and ensure that the completed project meets their standards. In other cases, direct approval might not be required to start the project. Speaking with your HOA first will help avoid any unnecessary fines and headaches.

The cost to build a fence is about $3,100 on average, but you could pay anywhere from $400 to $13,700 or more. Your cost will depend on the length, height, and materials for the fence. If you hire a professional installer, labor costs typically represent about half of the total cost of the project. This means you potentially can save quite a bit of money doing the work yourself.

Removing fence posts that are set in concrete is something you can't do by hand. You will need an excavator, a strong post-puller, or a jackhammer. If you plan on recycling the concrete base, you may be able to cut the post out with a jackhammer and then set the new post in the existing base. However, it's usually better to remove both the fence post and concrete together. Due to the weight of concrete, you will need a hydraulic removal tool.

Silt fences are very effective when installed correctly and used in proper locations. However, there are places where they don’t work as well. This includes property with a concentrated water flow, where runoff could pool or cause a flooding hazard. You’ll also want to use caution when installing in areas susceptible to landslides. Your contractor will follow state guidelines and know when an alternate solution is more effective.

While there’s no hard evidence to support this idea, driveway gates at least provide an additional obstacle that may deter crime. After all, a would-be burglar or trespasser would have to break into the gate and the property itself. The extra work could encourage them to move onto a house without a driveway gate.
