Customers say: Super punctual

"The first handyman I contacted through Angie's list did NOT get the job done because he had "bigger irons in the fire," and I do not think he knew what he was doing. He kept bumping me off of his agenda over a period of three days. I would NEVER call him again The second one was considerate, gave me a reasonable price, fixed my two projects, and was prompt. Both jobs were done to my satisfaction as promised within an hour for a reasonable price. He had an assistant. This second handyman is one the husband of the childhood friend of my daughter. This second workman, who did a first-rate job, is a very capable and polite man that I would be glad to ask to do jobs for me in the future. His name is David Hammond."

"Just did a absolutely fantastic job. Had hail damage to our screened porch and a few window screens. Recommended a more durable type screen for the porch. Went with that and we are so happy with it. Our house is on a fall away lot, so porch is a story off the ground. Have bushes on one side as well. Was amazed at how he tackled it all and got the job done. One panel came loose and got bent on one of the very stormy night, some weeks later. He came back out and replaced it all. Was a complete pleasure to talk to and won't hesitate to call him again. Have recommended to my neighbors as well."

"We hired Ken to install a gas griddle that came in a million parts and looked like an absolute nightmare to put together. I was worried even a handyman would have trouble…but he was on time, friendly and worked in the 90+ degree heat to get it put together in under two hours. The price was so reasonable too. We will definitely hire Ken again for any projects around our home!"

"I sort of hate giving this review because I’m afraid he won’t have time for us after everyone hears how awesome this guys workmanship & communication is. We hired G’s Home Services to do a complete update/rebuild a 1/2 bath. G installed all new drywall, trim, flooring, sink & toilet and the results are amazing. He also moved the electrical where I needed it. He was mindful of our budget & seemed to value our input on the job. I definitely recommend!"

"Dave did a fantastic job installing two new toilets in my condo. He was very personable, professional, and easy to work with from start to finish. The installation was done efficiently, everything looks great, and he made sure everything was working perfectly before leaving. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable handyman."

"Jordon absolutely crushed it on our pergola! We bought one from Lowe’s, and he built the whole thing himself for us. He didn’t rush anything and made sure every detail was right. I even had him come back to add a custom gutter to the front of it. He’s also just an awesome person to work with! Super friendly, respectful, easy to talk to, and kept me updated the whole way through!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Baking soda is an effective fire reduction method. However, flour and baking powder are very dangerous around flames. Flour is flammable and it can also conduct electricity. The combination can cause serious injury from electrical shock and worsen the situation by adding fuel to the fire. Baking powder is also not an option as it's also highly flammable.

Although no heating appliance can be entirely risk-free, a fireplace insert is considered a safer alternative to a traditional open fireplace, thanks to their enclosed design. With a sealed combustion chamber, a fireplace insert effectively reduces the risk of sparks and embers escaping into the room, minimizing the chance of an accidental fire.

Additionally, an insert comes equipped with various safety features, such as tempered glass doors that create a barrier between the flames and the surrounding space. This enhances both safety and energy efficiency by preventing heat loss. As an added bonus, many inserts are designed to meet strict safety standards that ensure proper ventilation and combustion.

The damper, located just above the firebox, can open or close the chimney flue. The damper should remain closed unless there’s a fire burning in the fireplace. Closing the damper prevents energy loss through the chimney and cold air from seeping into the home during the winter. Opening the damper helps maintain airflow when there is a fire and prevents smoke and gases from venting into the house.

One of the best ways to know your chimney is good to go on any given night is to simply look up into your flue with a flashlight. If you see a thick buildup of creosote—a shiny, dark substance that looks like tar—it’s best to have your fireplace professionally cleaned before you go ahead with the burn. Additionally, having your fireplace professionally inspected once per year can also help increase your peace of mind and keep your family and your home safe.

Yes, it’s worth capping a chimney. Here are several reasons to install a chimney cap:

  • Keep out rain, snow, wildlife, and other debris

  • Help prevent chimney fires

  • Reduce your chimney’s exposure to moisture

  • Maintain your chimney flue liner

  • Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature
