You can save money when moving by packing and moving items yourself. You can also find ways to cut costs by shopping for packing supplies at discounted stores and getting free moving boxes instead of purchasing them. It also pays off to declutter your belongings prior to starting the moving process. Remember, the fewer items you have, the fewer packing supplies you have to buy, and you can rent a smaller moving truck or container, too.

It is helpful for safety reasons to pack knives in their own box and clearly label them. This way, movers can take extra caution when moving these boxes and pack them in the moving truck accordingly. Plus, it will remind you to use extra caution when unpacking that box in your new kitchen.

The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

You should consider hiring professional movers for moves that seem too daunting, dangerous, or involve large, heavy objects. The larger your home and the longer the distance, the more likely you are to need professional help. A moving service can take the hardest tasks off your plate and reduce the risk of personal injury. However, if you are only moving a few light items, you can save money by moving on your own and renting a truck. Keep in mind that a DIY move requires significant planning and time. A hybrid option is also available, where you hire movers just to lift and transport heavy items to your vehicle.
