"I am highly satisfied with the basement remodel that Jeff and his crew recently completed. My experience from beginning to end with him was top notch. When we first met and discussed the project, Jeff made recommendations that were in keeping with what we wanted, without upselling us. In fact, he recommended the most cost-effective routes whenever possible. We received a detailed and very reasonable estimate promptly, and he was very much available and receptive to questions and feedback. Also, his quote was competitive and actually lower than others. After reading the Angie's list review, we knew he was the right person to do the job, so we hired him. He began the project promptly after the required permits were acquired, and he was in touch with us every step of the way, making recommendations when needed which were very helpful. The framing itself was like fine artistry. I was amazed with the detail and thoughtfulness that he put into that part alone. Subsequently the next steps including insulation, plumbing, electrical, drywall, paint, HVAC went smoothly, and without any delays. Communication with Jeff and his crew was always easy during the process. Jeff's subcontractors are top notch. All are loyal to him, and praised him due to his strong work ethic, pride in his work, and sheer talent. Their work was equally outstanding. As far as Jeff himself, he is kind, reliable, hard working, trustworthy, incredibly skilled, and a true pleasure to work with. He was always available to answer my questions, and he was always very patient in addressing all of my concerns. And very importantly, you can tell that he takes great pride in his work, and he is passionate about creating a high quality product. The end balance came in very close to the initial estimate. The final product is a masterpiece of outstanding craftsmanship and design. I would not hesitate for a moment to hire Jeff for any future projects. Do not look any further than Cape Home Remodel. You will be very happy with his work. Highly recommended!"

"Potter House was very responsive, calling back and providing an upfront no-BS time estimate for when work could actually begin (if we had decided to use them). Due to the busy nature of their schedule, they weren't expecting to be able to begin work for at least three weeks but, knowing the nature of our problem, were willing to come by and provide an estimate. When the gentleman I was dealing with came over to look at our problem he was, once again, upfront about how long it would be before Potter House would be able to begin work. He was also quite knowledgeable and honest about the different aspects of work and sub-contracting that would be required to get done what we needed. All-in-all, I was very appreciative of not being strung along nor having to do my own follow-up. Though we didn't end up using them (since we needed to get the work started before they were available), I would not hesitate to call them up again for future work.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

It can take anywhere from a few days to several months to draw up architectural plans, depending on the complexity of your project. Architectural plans are highly detailed documents that take time to complete, and any changes or alterations can significantly extend how long they take.

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.

Federal architecture is most common in urban areas throughout the New England states, including the older parts of New York, Pennsylvania (namely, Boston and Philadelphia), Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia. The style also dominated in parts of Georgia in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, so many historical homes in the area embody this home design. Salem, MA, has two historic districts that predominantly feature this architectural style: Chestnut Street District and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site.

The process typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on the project size and level of customization.

The early stages of building a house are harder than the later stages; laying the foundation and framing the house are two of the most challenging steps. However, it varies for everyone. Some people have difficulty installing HVAC, plumbing, and electricity, while others find it harder to plan the house and secure the necessary permits.
