"Reliable Insulation did a great job. They blew Insulation in our attic. On time, professional and very nice. We had them come back and lay plastic down in our crawl space. Very pleased with both jobs. Highly recommend!!"

"I very much enjoyed my experience with C&S Fencing and Insulation. All my interactions with them were pleasant; their bid was easily the best I got; and when Shawn arrived he got the job done very quickly by himself. I like watching an expert at work, and today was an education in efficiency. Kudos to C&S Fencing and Insulation!"

"I am the general contractor for the construction of my new house and I wanted a reputable insulation company to perform the installation. GAPFIL's product knowledge was better than the nearest competitor (Bluegrass) and offered more choices such as hybrid spray foam and blow-in blanket systems. The competition tried to steer me into open cell spray foam exclusively which appears to be a better system but in fact cheaper for the installer giving him a higher profit margin. I decided to go with the hybrid system which was cheaper for me and more effective at insulating. I recommend GAPFIL."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

To cover your HVAC ducts and air vents during construction, use plastic sheets or drop cloths secured with painter's tape. Be sure to cover all supply vents on your floors and walls, as well as the larger HVAC return vent, which is typically on the ceiling. While canvas drop cloths can also be used, they may not catch all the fine dust. It is crucial to shut off your HVAC system or at least the zone where construction is happening. Running the system with vents sealed can put significant strain on the blower motor and air handler. For additional dust containment, you can also hang plastic sheets over doorways to separate the construction area from the rest of your home.

Actually, condensation can mean that your windows are more energy efficient because the seal keeps cold air out and warm air in. In some cases, windows with poor seals can lead to more condensation, but they may allow the cold and warm air to mix and reduce condensation. If you’re worried about whether or not your windows are properly insulated, have a pro assess them.

Whether you should remove old insulation before blowing in new insulation depends on your particular situation. Fiberglass insulation attracts insects and mold over time, so if it has been decades since your last insulation upgrade, consider removing the old materials before placing the new ones. However, most types resist mold, insects, and mildew, so once you get the go-ahead from your contractor that your space is free from all three, feel free to install the new insulation directly on top of the pre-existing materials.

While fiberglass is dangerous to work with, it’s a perfectly safe material once it’s installed. If you’re tackling the installation yourself, make sure you take the proper safety precautions and wear the right gear to avoid skin and eye irritation and lung complications. Working with a professional insulation company can mitigate these risks.

While carpet over carpet may provide some additional insulation and soundproofing benefits, it's not as effective as other methods. Layering carpets can add a modest buffer against noise and temperature fluctuations, but it's limited compared to installing thicker carpet padding or using specialized soundproofing materials. For optimal floor insulation and soundproofing, consider alternative solutions tailored to your specific needs and budget, such as adding additional padding or soundproofing underlayments beneath the carpet.
