"I had 2 huge, old Oak trees that had to be removed from my yard. I contacted Nate’s Tree Service, left a message with my information. I was responded to in an extremely quick timeframe -shared my need and was given an appointment within 2days for someone to come give me an estimate and inform me of service he could complete. reasonable on price, company stayed in telephone contact from start to finish, arrived ready to start work, put in full days, cleaned all debris in yard and used blower each day on my drive where they had parked. Ground the stumps in such a profession way … I couldn’t be more pleased with Nate’s Tree Service Their work was great, they finished job quickly, and their clean- up was the BEST EVER!! I strongly recommend this company-such a pleasant, friendly team."

Small jobs welcome

"I recently hired Iron Brothers Construction in Nashville for tree work and stump removal, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They did an excellent job from start to finish—everything was completed efficiently and within a very reasonable timeframe. The pricing was fair and competitive, especially considering the quality of the work. What really stood out to me was how personable and professional the owner was. He made the whole process easy, communicated clearly, and made sure everything was done right. If you’re looking for reliable, high-quality tree services, I highly recommend them. I’ll definitely be using them again in the future!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It takes anywhere from three to seven years for a stump to decompose on its own. This timeframe can depend on the kind of tree and your climate. The lower to the ground the stump is, the faster it rots. If you kill a tree stump with salt, boiling water, herbicide, light deprivation, or burning, the tree stump decomposes faster.

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Tree removal costs typically don’t include stump removal, as that technically falls into a different service. The company you hire may offer the service for an additional fee; ask them if they offer it to ensure you get the best tree stump removal costs possible.

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.
