"D&A Painting Pro did an excellent job in painting our entire house inside. They came when they said they could and completed the job in 3 1/2 days. Abner was great to work with and very reasonable in price."

"Nathan replaced some defective siding, patched up some areas, and repainted the entire exterior of the house. He also refinished the deck and repaired our front porch railing. He did a beautiful job and saved us quite a bit of money. His price was great, his response time was very fast, and he got the job done quickly and professionally. We are very happy with the work he did - our house looks great! He also did a separate job of painting our interior (price not reflected here) and did a beautiful job, and helped us get our house ready to sell - we are very pleased!"

"Overall, the job went well.  The vast majority of the job was performed by a single painter.  This certainly contributed to the job taking a full week,  However, using a single painter likely also contributed to P & G Painting, Inc. being the lowest estimate we received.
The painter performed a tremendous amount of prep work.  I believe he spent two days going around the house filling in gaps and joints with caulking.  When the painting began the painter was a little less than careful.  There were some missed spots and thin coverage on others.  Every time we mentioned a concern to the owner he was quick to fix issue.  Phil was very easy to work with and seemed genuinely eager to do a good job.
I learned from a neighbor the siding on our home had been bare to the elements for many years before we bought the house.  I believe Phil had to come back and touch up spots three or four times before the paint would adhere properly.  He was very courteous and willing every time.
The finished job looks great.  There were no surprise charges when the job was complete.  During the job a couple of additional gallons of paint were needed.  We also chose to upgrade to a slightly better grade of exterior paint.  Our final bill was the estimated price plus the extras we authorized.
I would recommend P & G Painting, Inc. to anyone needing painting services.  They were the lowest estimate we received out of four.  Phil was great to work with.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.
