The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard. Donohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices. **WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)

"The job was beautifully and professionally done. I have a zero scape yard and the gentleman was concerned about disturbing the gravel when putting the rod into the ground. WOW!!!!"

"The most informative and knowledgeable solar company I was able to work with. I have shopped around and talked to other companies, but That Solar Company was able to accommodate and help me understand the process of the install that I needed to feel comfortable in completing the full install. Scott Manos is your guy to contact with any questions you may have. I highly recommend his expertise and professionalism when starting the process to upgrade your home. At any moment was able to call or text to get a clear understanding with the process of installation. Great guy to work with along with the other individuals in the office everyone has been extremely professional at all times and keeps their word dedication to their customers and not out just to sell for a gain. I truly recommend them to my friends and family."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The C-wire connects a smart thermostat to an HVAC panel and ensures the thermostat stays powered and connected to the Wi-Fi. Newer thermostats and newer HVAC systems come with a C-wire installed. Most, but not all, smart thermostats require a C-wire to work properly. Older thermostat models that aren’t “smart” don’t require a C-wire.

A multimeter does not measure frequency, charge, inductance, and other electrical quantities. Instead, it measures voltage (AC and DC), current, and resistance.

A home electrical inspection usually takes one to two hours. Full home inspections fall on the longer side, while code compliance inspections that focus on a single repair or installation may only take a few minutes. Optional add-ons like infrared inspections can add time, but these aren’t usually included in your standard inspection.

It’s possible to distinguish a positive black wire from a negative black wire if you know what type of circuit the wires are in. If it’s an alternating current (AC), then black wires are positive. If it’s a direct current (DC), then black wires are negative.

Sometimes, a circuit has two black wires. In that case, the positive black wire will be solid black while the negative black wire will have a white stripe on it. If you’re still unsure, you can use a multimeter to check.

Outlets with only two slots have no ground connection. That’s more common on very old outlets, which means it’s more likely the outlet won’t be polarized. You’ll have to closely examine the slots to see if there’s a size difference indicating polarization. Keep in mind outlets this old are usually out of code and should be replaced if you’re doing any electrical work.
