"Maverick Maintenance and Construction did a fantastic job on my project. Their team was highly responsive right from the start and maintained excellent communication while they worked. They are truly wonderful folks to deal with, and I already plan on using them again for a bigger project down the road."

"Jon has completed work for us on two seperate occasions.  He went above and beyond to assure we understood  what was needed and the cost.  We required some shingles to be replaced - he did the research and purchased them for us then made the necessary repairs.  He also changed some outdoor flood lights (high up) and power washed our gutters.  Everything was done in a timely way and with professionalism.  We will use him on all occasions that require a Handyman. "

"As a female, itâ s hard to vision the end result. This team went above and beyond anything I expected and still either stayed within the budgeted or gave me the option to make changes. They helped me ensure the choices I made were not just good for today but also for the future, I appreciated the partnership.. My first project was a basement remodel in 2010, I have been using this company ever since snd will continue to. Their quality of work, compassion and knowledge is impressive!"

"Rusty Rials did an excellent job installing the gutter guards. He also repaired extensive roof damage caused by rodents. And has done some painting and miscellaneous tasks as well. He is meticulous, honest, dependable and reliable. I kind of hate to share him because I know he will get busy and I like having him available!"

"It went very well. Nathan Brumbelow and his crew is an outstanding job on our house. They were professional and well versed in their job functions. Custom Painting and Home Repairs were easy to work with, and did a couple of things that were outside of the contract. They also suggested some changes that helped get the job done. They also cleaned up well after the completion of the paint job. We were very happy with Custom Painting and Home Pairs work, and would use them again."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

The most common scale for residential blueprints is 1/4 of an inch equals one foot. This scale is the most popular because it’s easier for everyone involved, from professionals to homeowners, to understand the building’s actual dimensions. Also, it allows blueprints to have the necessary details without cluttering the page.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

If your project is complex, it may make sense to hire an architect to draw plans. An architect might also be a good person to hire if you want to ensure your plans adhere to building codes and regulations.

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.
