A-1 Pump has been in business in the Emporia area for the past 2 years. We have worked mostly in the commercial market up to this point, however the acquisition of new equipment and staff has given us the resources to expand into the residential market. We cover the entire east central region of Kansas. We also have 24 hour emergency service available to any customer. As one of our core business segments, A-1 takes pride in offering a wide range of services to commercial facilities. In some cases we are able to reduce sewage surcharges by more than enough to totally pay for the services we provide. Sludge hauling and disposal are also significant parts of our operation. We utilize a combination of managed and owned property, to insure year round access and to guarantee that our program operates at a 100% compliance rate with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It is generally safe to stay in a house with sewer gas for a short time, even though short-term exposure is unpleasant. However, prolonged inhalation can cause headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of methane—which is in sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. Ventilate the area and call a pro if you smell sewer gas or experience related health symptoms.

Homeowners insurance usually doesn’t cover sewer backups because it’s typically an avoidable problem with proper maintenance. The only exception would be if the backup is occurring because of local flooding and only if your city uses a combined drainage system for stormwater and sewage. If that’s the case, your policy should cover any resulting damage.

Snaking a drain can take as little as a few minutes for small, simple clogs, up to two hours or more for tough clogs located further down the drain line. For tougher clogs, a professional drain cleaner can likely get the job done much more quickly because they have the necessary tools and expertise. However, your drain cleaning pro might not be able to give you a firm time estimate until inspecting the clog and its surrounding plumbing.

A sewer line should be cleaned at least once every 18 to 22 months. The process takes about 30 minutes or up to 5 hours, depending on the size of the line, how easy it is to access, and how long it’s been since the previous cleaning. If your sewer line hasn’t been cleaned in a couple of years or you don’t even know the last time it’s been cleaned, it’s time to call a pro.

There are many things that could cause your basement floor drain to back up. One significant cause of a drainage backup is flushing non-flushable items, such as wipes, paper towels, and facial tissue. Other causes of a backed-up basement floor drain include tree roots impeding the drain pipe or an accumulation of hair, oil, and grease.
