The decorator told me that as soon as we had left for vacation, he demanded more money. When she asked him why, so that she could tell us a reason, he became very hostile and yelled at her that he had been in the business for 40 years, and he had a great better business bureau rating, and she had no business questioning him about anything. I knew nothing about this until after he was "finished" and left my home. It took weeks before everything was fixed. My son was injured by the sharp edge of tile he left along the counter top. Mr. Marks' behavior was downright juvenile and malicious. I strongly recommend against using PRM or Paul Marks for any kind of work. I have eyewitnesses to all this, including the electricians and plumbers who had to repair everything once Mr. Marks was gone. I have held off commenting on here, because of his hostility and juvenile lack of accountability. By commenting, I feel that I may be placing myself and my household in danger, but a business person should not be able to do someone like he did us and then go on about his life as if it never happened. I have photographic evidence as well as the testimony of others. I suggest that Mr. Marks keep this in mind. I had a leak inside the house coming from the furnace chimney. I could see, outside, that some of the bricks on the upper most rows were loose (w/ deteriorated mortar). I called Richard at Murphy's Son Chimney Cleaning and Service in December (he was one of the only people who returned my call of about eight or ten with whom I left a message), and he advised we wait to repair it until the last frost.
I called him back last week (he said "let's wait until early April"), and yesterday he came over in the morning to look at the furnace chimney (and give me an estimate). He arrived right on time.
After looking at it, he pointed out where a temporary repair was done to the top liner (which we could see was cracked). He explained just what it needed:
-- replace top five rows of bricks
-- replace top liner
-- waterproof(seal) whole chimney
I was very pleased with what I thought was a very reasonable price quote: $450.
After agreeing to that, he suggested coming back just three days later for the repair. I pointed out that we were expecting rain on that day, and he countered with: "Well, if everything goes according to plan (on his schedule), how about if I come back later today (around 4:00 PM) and do it then?"
Wow! To get it done so quickly and at a great price -- I was very happy.
Sure enough, he came back at 4:00 PM and had EVERYTHING finished by just after 7:00 PM. And, the price: right at $450.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied. Richard responded to my calls right away, showed up (twice) on time, new exactly what needed to be done, explained it clearly, gave a very reasonable quote (which he didn't veer from), and repaired it super fast!
I do recommend Murphy's Son (his father started the business) Chimney Cleaning and Service, and am grateful that my furnace chimney was repaired so quickly and at a great price. Thanks, Richard!!!

When we came home, and I had to deal with Mr. Marks, he was polite to my face, but would go around the corner into the kitchen and mock me, apparently in an attempt to amuse his workers. He left my kitchen in a dangerous condition. The light fixture over the kitchen island was dangerously...

"I called for a free estimate, Justin came promtly and inspected the chimey. He showed me pictures of the problems and spelled out all the options. I explained to him that my cellar has floode due the problems and was anxious to get the repairs done. Justin quoted a price that was fair and much lower then any other estimates. To my surprise he said that he could do the job that day. He kept sending me pictures as the work progressed so I knew exactlywhat he was doing. He was professional and honest about what needed to be done. I was more then pleased with him and the company. I highly recommend .Chimneys are us."

FAQs for chimney sweeping projects in Ridgeville, IN
While it’s possible to sweep your own chimney, it’s usually not a good idea for two reasons. First, inexperienced DIYers are more likely to miss areas of the chimney, which still leaves the risk of house fire due to the remaining residue. Second, chimney sweeping seems like a simple process, but it’s highly dangerous. Soot and creosote are both carcinogenic and can cause breathing issues and lung damage. If you don’t take the same safety precautions that professionals do, you could be putting yourself at risk of serious bodily harm.
You should plan to ask your chimney sweeper questions about the cleaning process they intend to use, the project timeline, and more to get a sense of which professional is right for the job:
What is your process for cleaning chimneys?
How long will the process take?
Will you protect my floors from soot and debris?
Will you do a chimney inspection, too?
Do you have certification from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) or the National Fire Institute (NFI)?
Will you need access to my roof?
The average cost for a professional chimney cleaning is around $250, but prices range from $130 to $400 or more, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on your total include the size of your chimney, the number of chimneys cleaned, and how accessible the chimneys are.
In some cases, you don’t need to do anything to prepare for chimney sweeping, but professionals always appreciate leaving the area clean and easy to access. As such, it’s a good idea to move fireplace accessories like screens and fire tending tools out of the way, and lay down tarps of drop cloths around your fireplace opening to help keep your floors clean. Laying down a plastic sheet under those cloths or tarps is a good idea if your fireplace is surrounded by carpeting, just to add extra protection. Finally, secure any pets or children away from the work area.
The National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA) recommends chimney sweeping once per year as a means of avoiding house fires and massive property damage. Over time, creosote and soot build up in your chimney from burning wood and a lack of ventilation. These compounds are both highly flammable, which means a build-up of them inside your chimney puts you at an increased risk of house fire. Chimney sweeping removes any residue and helps reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury from fire.
