"I chose Precise Painting and Restoration out of four other painters I had over because Juan ensured me he could replace the few rotten siding pieces I had on my house. That was valuable to me because I didn't have to find a separate contractor to do the work. During the repair and painting project, Juan would let me know what he was going to work on and gave me updates during the day. Juan and his whole crew were very professional and hard working. My house looks absolutely beautiful!"

"I highly recommend Five Star Painting of Merrillville! They did an excellent job painting the interior (walls and ceilings) of our house! We also had them repair drywall from installing new can lights and now you cannot even tell where the damage was. They are so detailed and really go above and beyond! If you need help picking colors, they have a great eye and give tailored recommendations for your specific space. So much time is spent prepping the walls before painting even begins - not just fixing the holes from things like picture hangers but looking for nail pops, cracks, uneven spots, you name it - they want the end result to be as close to perfect as possible. The crew was friendly, on time, organized, and clean. Overall great customer service and communication from start to finish and very competitive pricing. I really cannot say enough good things about my experience with Five Star Painting. Use them!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The plastic in composite decking boards protects them enough that you do not need to paint them to prevent warping. In fact, painting composite decking voids the warranty of some manufacturers. Painting can also increase maintenance on the deck, as you must paint regularly to keep it looking its best.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Yes, professionals offer slip-resistant options for added workplace safety.
