"Marty met me and talked about my particular situation and provided excellent guidance and suggestions on what to look for in the future. Why give a 5 star rating? He was honest and has high integrity. Basically I donâ t have a foundation leak but more likely water intrusion under a door seal. He spent the extra few minutes needed to make suggestions of things I could do to prevent future events from occurring. If i ever do get a leak, guess who Iâ m calling - Advanced Restoration & Waterproofing."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage

Rescreening your porch can take a few hours to a whole day, depending on the size of the enclosure and the amount of screen that needs replacing. If you decide to have a professional handle the rescreening, be sure to get a timeline and a cost estimate so you know how long you’ll be without the screened-in space.

Many windows carry warranties from the manufacturer or installer that may cover the cost of repairs for a fixed amount of time. When installing or replacing windows, ask about any applicable warranties, what kinds of damage and repair they may cover, and what the procedure is for making a warranty claim.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.

Pet-resistant, vinyl-coated polyester is one of the strongest window screen materials available, with some manufacturers touting a 7x increase in strength compared to standard fiberglass screens. Stainless steel security screens are also extremely strong, but they’re not suitable for coastal areas due to the risk of corrosion from salty sea air. If sea air isn’t a concern, stainless steel is extremely tough.
