"Abe replaced damaged areas of my deck, stained it, and installed posts from which I was able to hang lighting and shade options in my backyard, which previously had none. The latter of this work was an idea he presented to me and that I had never considered myself, with very little added cost. Abe is efficient while also providing incredible quality. I was blown away by the amount of work he achieved in a short period of time, and even more impressed that there was no need for touchups afterward (although he offered to come back with no added cost if anything were to arise). This is the first contractor I have worked with who I felt wasnโ€™t pressuring me into more than I needed. He assessed the work to be done, gave feedback on any potential hiccups that could arise, and made me feel entirely comfortable throughout the entire process with clear communication. I have referred Abe to all of my close friends and family, and you would be wise to do the same!"

"I dealt with Tim for the price and project details and then Jeff was the man who came out to do the job. The deck had previously been done by a guy who did not know what he was doing so Jeff power washed the entire deck and let it dry for 24 hours, then he sanded the deck and scrubbed it down with denatured alcohol to help remove any remaining paint from before. When the deck was dry, Jeff taped off everything and proceeded to edge everything before he rolled a nice thick layer of paint on the deck. We waited another 24 hours and Jeff returned to apply a nice second coat of paint on the entire deck. Tim and Jeff are very easy to work with and I will most certainly come back to them for future projects."

"I had a great experience hiring them to paint my kitchen cabinets. Each day arriving on time, letting me know the process along the way. In addition to this, details that I may not have considered were covered. For example there was a corner trim piece to my cabinet missing. They went to Home Depot, purchased the piece and brought me a receipt for reimbursement. It looks much nicer when these details are noticed. My kitchen looks wonderful. I am very happy."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

Staining a deck is typically less expensive upfront than painting. The cost to stain a deck professionally averages around $850, with most homeowners paying between $550 and $1,250, depending on the deck's size. A DIY staining project can cost less than $100. The cost to paint a deck ranges from $500 to $2,000. While the initial cost of staining is lower, it's important to consider long-term expenses. Paint can last up to 10 years, whereas stain needs to be reapplied every few years, which could lead to higher costs over time.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.
