"It went really well. This is my 2nd time purchasing carpet from Floor's R Us. The first time was back in March 2012 and it was for my house when I moved in. I bought about 3,000 Sqft worth of carpet which was about 65 ounce weight. Even thou they are located in Highland, IN and I live in Chicago which is not far, I drove and rented a uhual trailer and picked it up. I had my own installer do the job at that time. I went to Home Depot and found the carpet we want and then contacted Floors R Us to help hunt down that particular carpet which was a better price than Home Depot. Now I called them again to buy a 12' x 35' for my basement theater room. This time was more convenient cause I used their own carpet installer. The installer went out to Highland, IN to pick up the carpet for me and brought it to my house. He was very nice and was very careful of my newly painted walls. He had a lot of professional tools with which tells me he really knows what his doing. His been doing it for 20 years from what he told me. He did 1 seam and I tried to find it at which I could not see where he pieced it together. He did a great job installing the platform too. Overall I'm very happy again for the 2nd time. I can vouch for this company specially the installer that he knows exactly how to install a carpet."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Experts advise that replacing carpeting can bring a 50% to 80% return on investment. However, new carpeting doesn’t necessarily add value to your overall home value. Because flooring value heavily depends on taste, it can be tricky to determine whether new carpet will increase your home sale price. Carpeting tends to be a renovation that increases overall comfort and aesthetics for your home, but it’s not a big factor in value.

Yes, there are plenty of ways to lay stair carpet without grippers, such as carpet adhesive, magnetic flooring, or staples. Adhesive may be your best bet if you don’t want grippers, as it will most likely stick the best and cause the least amount of damage. However, if you’re looking for an easy fix, grippers are one of the best solutions you can purchase.

It is normal to glue carpet down, though it’s not the only or the most popular method of installing carpet. Modern techniques include tack strips and stretching the carpet, but you might still find glued carpet in older homes or a home with a DIY’d past. Removing a glued-down carpet will be harder compared to other methods of installation.

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

Carpet tiles are less expensive than traditional carpet. The average cost of carpet installation is $1,800, or $3 to $11 per square foot. In comparison, carpet tiles cost $2.50 to $11 apiece and can often be bought in bulk cartons. Since you can more easily DIY carpet tiles, you may be able to save on installation costs, too.
