"I cannot say enough good things about this company! First, Nick the owner is so professional, while being friendly and thoughtful about the job! And Eric, the guy who worked with him was the same. They came when they said they would and went right to work. Did a wonderful job, cleaned up as they went and made sure I was pleased with the work. Nicks quote was well below more well-known concerns. Do not hesitate to hire Maple Crest Tree Service."

"Very professional removal at a tall pine between 2 house. General clean up of trees on the rest of the property. Made adjustments to their schedule to accommodate ours. Planning to use them again on another property."

"Bryan (the owner) came out on the time he said he would arrive and did the service cutting up my tree and taking away all debris even though it was a little more involved than he expected but he got the job done a 100% for the price he quoted me. He’s a very hard working man and dedicated to what he does."

Small jobs welcome

"Had problems showing up on time. Had to put on vinyl siding but struggled to get it right. Had to repaint inside wall 3 times, had to re-mud twice. Tried really hard to do a good job and kept coming back until I was satisfied. Brought 3 year old son to the job (mother was present but would have gotten more done without having to watch him). Very pleasant and eager to please but not sure of their experience level."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Consumers typically do not need to worry about the cost of tree insurance, as professional tree service companies pay for their own coverage. For a tree service business, an average U.S. policy covering about $1 million in general liability costs roughly $40 a month or $500 a year. More extensive policies, providing between $500,000 to $2 million in coverage, can cost between $3,000 and $6,000 annually, depending on the company's size and scope of work. Tree service professionals should speak with an insurance company to determine the right plan for their business.

Trimming your palm trees once or twice per year keeps them healthy and robust. Caring for palm trees includes cutting off brown leaves to prevent wildfires and pathway obstruction. However, you don’t want to over-trim the palm tree. Cutting too many branches off will weaken the tree and prevent future growth. And it’s essential to have a strong, healthy palm tree during hurricane season to prevent safety risks or property damage.

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.

You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.

Removing tree stumps is a dangerous and complex job that requires a high level of expertise. Many landscapers specialize in general lawn care and maintenance. But, some may have the proper licensing and qualifications needed to safely remove tree stumps. In most cases, though, landscapers will refer you to a local tree removal or stump grinding company.
