"Luke Heckman responded quickly to my inquiry for an estimate servicing two apple trees in the front yard. The price was extremely reasonable. He came to the house within a few days and thoroughly trimmed and pruned the trees and they look great now. I will call Luke for sure if I need more tree work done. Highly recommend!"

"Bryon removed 3 large difficult pine trees in our side yard. We had a time crunch and he was super flexible to fit us in around other jobs he had already scheduled. He was thorough, efficient and completed the job as hired. He was on site each time he said he would be here, and left the property completely clean. They hauled away every single stick and branch! We would hire Bryon again!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

A grafted tree is a tree grown by combining two trees. It takes expertise. Branches from grafted trees don’t grow strong roots. Save yourself the time and frustration by having an arborist help you with this advanced project.

You can often tell if a tree is grafted because it will have a noticeable line. Above the line, the bark will look different than it does below the line. It’s most common with fruit trees.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

Yes, it is highly recommended to remove tree stumps. Leaving them in the ground can lead to several problems, as they are not only unsightly but can also reduce your property's value. Stumps can obstruct landscaping plans, make mowing difficult, and hinder new growth. More importantly, they are prime breeding grounds for pests like termites, ants, and mice, which can spread to your home and cause costly damage to its wood and foundation. Stumps also attract fungi and diseases that can infect other healthy trees and plants in your yard. As a stump decays, it might sprout new, unwanted shoots. While removing a stump is an investment, it prevents these potential issues and enhances the safety, health, and appearance of your landscape.

Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. Depending on the type of tree and value, this could mean dishing out two to three times the value of the tree.

It’s worth noting that the specifics of this type of tree maintenance and the guidelines around it may vary by location. Do your research and, most importantly, consult with your neighbor.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.
