"We cannot say enough great things about Tristate Complete Home Repair! We just finished up a partial renovation of the interior of our Hoosier Homestead farmhouse, and Tristate did a fabulous job! The house had spent decades under the care of our aging parents, so it needed a lot of careful attention to update nearly everything without compromising the unique historical beauty of the house. Owner Tim of Tristate brought decades of renovation experience to our project, leading a crew of workers representing all the trades. This meant fewer delays and mistakes on our project. No regrets here. We look forward to future work from Tristate!"

Small jobs welcome

I’m a jack of all trades. I was raised to work hard and I have experience in multiple areas. I do excavation for my full time job so I am just looking for a little extra work on the side. I have a truck and trailer so my services can expand beyond what is listed. Thank you for the opportunity!

"I called Maximus Contracting about needing a new roof because of hail/wind damage.  I needed it quickly because we're selling the house soon, and I didn't have a big budget to work with because I received less from my insurance company than I was expecting.  Eric called back quickly and gave me a very reasonable estimate for the work.  The new shingles are of better quality than my original roof, and it looks great.  I finalized my shingle choice with Eric, and the crew completed the work the very next day.  Eric even came out to my office a couple times because my schedule doesn't often allow me to be at home during the day.  All in all, it was a great experience.  I feel confident that I received a great value, and the customer service was exceptional.  I would highly recommend using this company!

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

PVC decking might be long-lasting, but this synthetic material lacks the natural aesthetic or sustainability of wood decking. If you want to match your decking to your new garden furniture or just freshen up the faded surface, it’s not usually possible to paint PVC decking. When comparing PVC to composite decking, PVC is pricier and more prone to warping in hot regions.

PVC decking tends to be cooler than composite because the material is less dense and absorbs less heat. However, it depends on the deck’s color. A dark-colored PVC deck may run hotter than a light-colored composite deck. If you’re concerned about your deck getting too hot, it’s best to stick to a light color such as beige or gray.

Yes, it is possible to add an under-deck drainage system to an existing deck by retrofitting it to the structure. This process may require some prep work. For example, many drainage systems are installed on top of the deck joists, which would require you to remove the decking boards and railings first. To avoid this, you could opt for a below-the-joist drainage system. For best results and to ensure proper installation, it is recommended to consult a professional. A pro can inspect your deck, make any necessary repairs, and then install the drainage system correctly.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.
