"Didnâ t have any plans to get plaster work done. Called Daryl out, from a recommendation of a friend, to give me a bid. The walls were pretty poorly hung(big gaps from new gypsum board being hung) to be honest. Daryl gave me a great price and told me itâ s going to look brand new. Sure enough at the end it looks incredible. Iâ d highly recommend to anyone I know. Easy to communicate with, on time, professional. And from here on out I know Iâ m going plaster finishes when I have the option!!"

"I could not have asked for a better experience. Staff at Mr. Handyman are truly professionals! Appointments were confirmed daily, technicians arrived on time, cleaned entire work area daily, communicated the progress of the project daily. I have used other companies in the past and there is no comparison. I will certainly be using them again for my next project and have recommend them to my family or friends."

"this is the 4th project that I have used Foundation Recovery Systems for to repair my basement walls and the work is always spot on. On this project it was more wall anchors and Devon Brown and his crew did excellent work and were very informative about the work they were doing. They drove on very icy roads for three to four hours to get to my home."

"Sean is professional, reliable, and friendly. The primary project was a master bathroom total gut. Sean ensured there were studs to support the drywall, installed the drywall, taped, mudded and painted the bathroom and master bedroom. While mudding he had to blend one wall with the existing master bedroom wall due to a bathroom wall being moved . When it was finished You couldnâ t tell there had ever been another wall. Side projects included mudding problem areas in hall bathroom, guest bedroom and laundry room. Once finished his work was seamless. Sean also painted the ceilings in all rooms mentioned in this write up. We would highly recommend Sean for your work projects."

"I could not be happier with the final product! The first pic is the old bathroom from the 60s when the house was built. The rest are the final rebuild and it looks great. I would highly recommend VMK Remodeling for any project that you might have. I am also going to get a bid on redoing the deck on the back of the house as Vince's company does decks as well! Thanks to his great crew as well, great people to work with."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.
