The technician was on time, professional, and took the time to explain everything clearly they also swapped out my nest thermostat for an ecobee and got it set up. "Call this electrician! He s worth your call, don t wait for him to call you! He was fair, honest and went above and beyond our expectations. We got two other quotes, one being from another company (Service detectives) who charged us $89 for a QUOTE and then quoted us $19k for everything we wanted done. For the things we needed done (not the whole house but a new meter outside, wiring to the inside, new panel and several outlets rewired) Holtzclaw Electric did for 3 times less than S.D. Just call Brandon. You won t regret it."

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Yes. It's not just AC filters that get dirty. Ducts can accumulate dust and dirt quickly. Insects and animals can also get into duct systems, creating many problems. Dirt build-up and unwanted guests can constrict the airflow and cause rooms not to cool evenly. You might also see higher energy bills because they're not working as efficiently.

While many states do not have specific licensing requirements for HVAC companies, your local city or county might. It's always a good idea to check local requirements online and use a tool like Angi’s contractor license lookup to confirm that the company you’re considering is licensed. Regardless of licensing, you should always ensure the company you hire is fully insured to avoid potential lawsuits if a technician is injured on your property. Additionally, it is recommended to check if the company holds third-party certifications, such as North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or R-410A certification, which qualifies them to work with HVAC refrigerants.

Yes, it's normal for air conditioners to leak tiny amounts of water due to condensation. Under normal circumstances, all excess moisture travels to the drain pan to be pumped through your system's drain line. You should call a technician to diagnose the issue if you're noticing frequent leaking or pooling. It's also important to investigate if your homeowners insurance can cover water damage.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.
