Willie’s Honey Company is a small business run by my Wife Rachel and I (Wil) . We are located around Northern Illinois in the Lake/Mchenry counties area. We strive to provide high quality hive products, bees and learning opportunities at an affordable price. I started beekeeping when I was 13 by finding a book at the Library and have been hooked ever since. I went on and got a degree in environmental ecology and wetland ecosystems. In addition I am currently serving as the vice president of the Lake County Beekeepers Association. I believe that all agricultural practices should leave the land and the animals better than it started out. Following this train of thought we don't use any chemical treatments on our hives and select stock from winter hardy and disease resistant survivor stock. Many of our hives and components are built from dumpster dived lumber, paint, and nails. Bees are an important part of the ecosystem and all of our lives. All swarm and structure removal of honeybees we do live capture and re-home to our apiaries. Many of these feral bees become an important part in our program to breed hardy bees for our area.

"This is the first time I've worked with an animal removal company. I had a hole under my steps and a friiend had seen a skunk. So this spring I made a number of calls to animal removal companies based on recommendations from animal control office. One independent trapper said he costs $85 to set a trap and $75 for each animal caught. i asked if there was limit given we have a lot of squirrels and rabbits and so on and he said no unless I run out of money. So when I talked with Trap n Track they give a set price of $300 for unlimited animals. I went with this company to limit my risk. They came out and they looked for signs of the skunk but couldn't find any except for a couple of black hairs on the bricks above the hole. I think they knew at that point there wasn't a skunk but they said there could be and they put a "force trap" - what that is is a trap that covers the hole so no other animal can enter the trap except the skunk (limits their risk). I then convinced them to put another trap back by my pool because there were a lot of rabbits under the deck (I kinda knew there wasn't a skunk after following the guy around so I thought I better get some animal trapped for my money). To their credit they did put this second trap - they didn't need to do that. So a day goes by and the pool deck trap has an opossum. I called and they took it. They didn't bait that trap again - I found that interesting as it took that trap out of play. They left the traps for 30 days. They never came out and checked the traps or made any effort to maybe move the trap to another place where the skunk might be. This operation basically has a runner who comes and takes animals out of traps only if you call them before 9am. So after the first day I never saw them again. I had pictured in my naive mind that they would come out and hunt for the animal (skunk) and then tell me either there isn't any or find it. But just the opposite, they called and asked me if I had seen any activity. I'm glad that we caught the opossum but I expected a little more attention for the $300 that i paid. If you think you have multiple animals this company may be a good option - but if it is just one you may want to go with a pay as you go trapper and save some money."

Animal Removal questions, answered by experts

You might be tempted to call your local municipality to remove animals from your property, such as a groundhog burrowing in your yard or raccoons getting into your trash cans. However, they typically only remove domestic animals like dogs and cats from properties, or sick and injured wildlife that pose a public safety risk or health threat, such as a rabid animal. They typically do not capture or remove healthy wildlife.

Animal removal professionals have the tools, knowledge, and skills to trap and remove wild animals adequately and humanely. They also can relocate them correctly.

Probably not. Many imitation nests are meant to be hung from trees or other tall places, but not all yellow jackets nest up high—most species, such as the common yellow jacket and the southern yellow jacket, build nests in the ground.

Whereas a honeybee can only sting you once, a yellow jacket can sting you multiple times because they don’t leave stingers in the skin. In the unfortunate case that you get stung by a yellow jacket, it’s important to react calmly and quickly. Immediately ice the affected area until the swelling subsides. You may also take an antihistamine if necessary. If you experience an allergic reaction to a yellow jacket sting or have been stung several times, seek medical care right away.

If you seal bees in a wall and don’t leave them any way to escape, they may make one of their own. Otherwise, they’ll die inside the wall, and that creates many additional problems. It takes a long time, and the bees will start rotting, which can make your home smell miserable. All the dead bees and any honeycombs they may have created will also attract a number of bugs or other pests to your home. That’s why we suggest removing the bees entirely, and not trying to seal them away.

Look for consistent buzzing sounds, visible hives, or increased bee activity around your property.
