"Desmond is always prompt on returning text messages and emails. I liked his strategic planning of where each recessed light would be placed, assuring to have light exactly where it would be needed and placed for looks aswell. It came out really lovely. He also rewired our electrical box when all the wiring was found in the soffit we had removed. The wiring was to short to get into the wall and he made it happen so we could drywall. I definitely recommend Desmond for any electrical project you might have or want done."

"I needed a new circuit breaker panel installed. They were on time, did great work and cleaned up all of the mess. They also installed my Starlink and did internet wiring for me. I was extremely happy with the price and the work preformed."

"I was pleased with the installation of the lightning rods--communication was great and the work was done quickly. What I wasn't happy with is he quoted me a price that was less then my actual bill was BUT the price was still less then two other contractors bids."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, one wire is always hot on the 3-way switch, meaning it carries the electricity from the power source to the switch. If you have a 3-wire cable in your home, you have two hot wires, or line wires, coming from the power source. Typically, you’d connect the hot black wire from the power source to the traveler wire and the hot red wire from the power source to the first 3-way switch. For the second 3-way switch, you’d then connect the hot black traveler wire to the switch.

Often, you can add extra breakers to an electrical panel. A new breaker can help with new appliance needs, and it’s a common solution when finishing an attic or basement. However, adding extra breakers can’t bring in more amps to your house, so you still need enough amp service to power everything in total.

While washers and dryers do not require a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet to function properly, electrical codes often mandate their use for safety. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires GFCI protection for all outlets within six feet of a water source. This means a washer and dryer must be plugged into a GFCI outlet if they are installed in locations like a laundry room, utility room, garage, or basement. In other areas without a nearby water source, there is no specific requirement, but using a GFCI outlet is still recommended for extra peace of mind. It is always best to consult your local codes and regulations to ensure compliance and safety.

In many cases, you can sell your house if it has aluminum wiring, but you are likely required to disclose that fact during the sale. In some cases, your city or area may have banned the sale of homes with aluminum wiring, so you’ll need to update the wiring or arrange for its replacement as part of the sale. In some cases, it will benefit your home sale to replace the wiring system before putting it on the market.

If one plug in your outlet works but the other doesn't, it could be due to a few reasons. The outlet might have a loose or damaged internal connection on the non-working side. Another possibility is that the outlet is a split receptacle, with one half controlled by a wall switch that might be turned off. Additionally, debris or damage inside the non-working plug could prevent a proper connection. If you can't identify the issue, remember to prioritize safety. Replace the outlet or consult a professional electrician to ensure safety and proper functionality.
