"Dave contacted me by phone in response to my request for a quote. He told me what the cost would be, and that is what I was charged when the job was completed. The price was very reasonable. He was professional, courteous, and showed up on time. He did a great job getting out duct work cleaned out and communicated with me at the end about what he found. I'd recommend this company and will use their services again."

"Used Angie to find a local (handyman) and within minutes was contacted by Tim. He arrived at my house within hours and was able to find the issue with a light fixture, that I could not resolve. Very satisfied with the work and Tim was great to work with. Will be recommending him to any neighbors that need help."

I am a jack of trades independent contractor/ handyman with 10+ years experience. I am not a licensed plumber, licensed electrician, or licensed roofer. With that said it's easier to just tell you the things that I don't do. I do not do drain work, I do not replace electrical lines or panel boxes, I do not replace plumbing lines which includes water and gas, and I do not replace roofs. Aside from that I can do everything else, and have the tools to do so.

"On April 30, 2025 we utilized the services of Duct Dusters, Springfield, IL to clean our ducts prior to an installation of a new HVAC system. We selected Duct Dusters because they are BBB Accredited, had a 5-Star rating, great reviews, & the owner, Jeff explained their cleaning processes in great detail. Our technicians, Max & Cody arrived on time; were friendly & professional; wore booties over their shoes; showed us before-during-after pictures of each duct; and left the premises tidy & free of debris. They deserve our 5-star rating."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?

It’s critical to use the right size AC for your space and not go too small or too big. If you purchase an undersized unit, it won’t properly cool your house, and it has to work harder to reach the optimal temperature. This will eventually wear your unit out. An oversized unit can spell trouble because it will turn off and on more frequently, which also wears out your AC unit. An oversized unit also causes humidity in the home.

Yes, you can put an AC unit on the roof of your home or commercial building. For proper installation, you’ll need to ensure the roof surface is flat, it’s accessible for maintenance and cleaning, and an AC installation pro agreed that your home is a candidate for package units. Don’t forget to consider the climate in your area, as homes that experience frequent tropical storms or hurricanes may not benefit from this type of system.

Most AC repair technicians will take between two and six hours to carry out repairs, depending on the work needed and the accessibility of the unit. For example, recharging refrigerant lines should take one to two hours to service, while replacing a compressor, blower fan, or other major components can take five to eight hours. You can ask your AC repair technician how long they expect the job to take, but just in case, you should plan on being home and available for most of the day.

Some AC filters, known as reusable filters, can be cleaned and reinserted. Most AC filters, however, are disposable and cannot be cleaned.
