"I was in the middle of selling my property and had a carpet installer scheduled to come. He canceled without any prior notice and really left me hanging. I called Ralph's Floor Fashions and they took their evening or should I say late night to come out and help me finish the job so that my realtors could continue showing the property the next day to potential buyers. Needless to say this is above and beyond the Call of Duty as they were working late into the night with about an hour's notice. I literally called them and they agreed to just simply help me. There are so few people in the world like this and I highly recommend their services as they are truly nice people."

"I have over 30 years woodworking experience, but never with floors, so I tried it, and quickly found out it is a different animal entirely. I didn't have the right tools, experience, or feel for the job. But Lanning Hardwood Flooring does. Trust me, floor refinishing is not a do it yourself job. Save yourself the time, frustration, and money - call Lanning. They finished the job in two days - a 70-year-old oak floor that was warped with water stains. They got it level and most of the water stains are gone, the bad water stains (that honestly were probably stained with a lot more than just water) are virtually hidden in the color of wood stain they recommended - the floor looks fantastic. If I ever have another hardwood floor refinishing job, my first call will be to Lanning."

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Dry rot or severe water damage may warrant a replacement, but you don’t always need to replace damaged subflooring. If your subfloor has warped because it was installed incorrectly, you can sometimes shim the panels (in other words, add a thin, wedge-shaped piece of wood to level the surface). If your subfloor bows upward, you may be able to sand it down at the joist so it’s level, depending on the extent of the damage.

New flooring costs quite a bit, so longevity is important to think about. Concrete generally has the longest life span, but it’s not always a good solution for homes with wooden subfloors. That said, hardwood floors and stone floors can last up to 100 years, and you can refinish or restore them to remove imperfections from daily wear.

Vacuum regularly, clean spills promptly, and schedule professional deep cleaning annually.

When it comes to linoleum versus laminate, the better choice depends on your personal needs. Linoleum tends to last longer but is more difficult to install. Laminate is less eco-friendly and less durable, but it is easy to install without a professional.

Both options come in a wide variety of styles, but many prefer the look of laminate. Laminate and linoleum are affordable flooring options compared to hardwood or tile, but laminate costs less at about $0.70 to $2 per square foot.

Spring and fall are the best seasons for installing carpet. Both seasons benefit from moderate temperatures and low humidity levels, which can help the carpet acclimate to the room and settle properly once installed. However, installing carpet during the winter months could result in lower costs, as demand for this service is low.
