"I had Illinois Valley Insulation at my house to blow in insulation in my garage attic. I was told by the owner Scott Bickett that I needed an R30 value which means I would need about 8 1/4” of insulation blown in. He was paid in cash($1500 paid in full but only did half the work), and a couple of days later I went up there and measured and only have about 4 1/2 inches so he only did about half the work and charged full price. And when I confronted him, he told me there’s8 to 10 inches up there which is a lie and I’ve given him every opportunity to call come by Measure and prove to me that is there, but he has failed to do so because he is just proving my point that he is in the wrong. And now he still will not provide me with a receipt so he’s trying to keep the cash and hide it like he didn’t do the Work very unprofessional."

Big Kountry Built is a local partnership with a combined work experience in the trades of over 35 years. We launched in march of 2014 adding everything from deck building/refinishing to interior painting and underground dog fence installs. We bid, complete, and bill for all work done and if desired by the home owner(s) would sub-contract out work if necessary to expedite the job at hand. All estimates are completed in a timely manner and of course are at no cost to the customer. Payments are due in full with in 30 days of work being completed, as well both us and home owner undoubtedly satisfied with the job done. Special payment arrangements can be discussed prior to acceptance of original bid and start of work.

Ductwork insulation in the crawl space is a simple add-on if you are hiring someone to insulate the entire crawl space already. Separately, it is only a few hours of work. Covering the glass will also prevent the sunlight from getting in, which might actually decrease the efficiency of your window overall. If you get to the point where you’re hanging blankets over your window to keep warm, call in an expert to seal around your windows to prevent warm air from escaping. They may also recommend replacing old windows that aren’t as insulative as newer window technology. Sealing a window isn’t terribly expensive and can make a big difference.

Structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards have the highest R-value of any insulation that contractors commonly use, with R-values reaching up to around 8.0. These types of insulation are best in extremely cold climates, but they’re generally preferred for new construction, as they can be challenging to retrofit. Blown-in and loose fill insulation provide the next best insulative value, provided the installation is done properly. It’s important to choose an insulation type that meets your needs based on climate, as maximizing R-value may not always be financially worthwhile if you live in a moderate climate.
