"The job was completed on schedule, with some long nights put in. My wife has hardly left the porch since they screened it in. Customer service was without compare. A more energetic team would be hard to come by."

"B&G finished the drywall and wood trim, painter walls and trim, and did a decorative concrete surface in the office and bathroom in my pole barn. They treated it like it was a room in my home, very well-finished surfaces, used their materials as well as some of mine, were VERY clean during the process and clean-up afterward. returned calls promptly, arrived at worksite right on time each day and were priced very reasonably. I would recommend these guys highly for any painting and surface finishing. I will be using them again!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

By applying protective finishes and using durable materials that withstand weather and time.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Aftercare includes routine cleaning, checking for water repellency, and promptly addressing any chips or peels, maintaining the deck's appearance and functionality.
