"Marcus showed up on time to look at the damage and give me an estimate. He was very professional and performed the work promptly He and his laborer did a great job and cleaned up very well. I will have him put the air conditioner into a side wall in the spring when it's warmer. I am very pleased with his work. He also did a couple of very small jobs for me at no additional cost which I appreciated very much. I am more than happy to give him a great review and to recommend him as a contractor."

"Kevin and his dad did a great job of planting 5 Yews for me and laying down new mulch. Kevin was very quick to reply to my phone calls super courteous and very easy to work with. I live in an HOA community and took this project on myself at my own cost. I discussed all this with Kevin and I feel he gave me more than a fair price for the work that he did. I would definitely hire him again. Thanks Patty"

"I called with an emergency situation. Best buy was supposed to do an installation for a new washing machine. They were able to only get the hot water line off. AS a result they did not do the install. When they left, they failed to put the hot water line back properly, 5 mins after they left the hose, it started to spray everywhere and I was not able to turn it off and best buy refused to come back and fit it. Water got into my ceiling and light fixtures below. Called Patriot Home Repairs, they were fast, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. They were able to repair the issue with the valve , and even fix the other hose best buy couldn't take off. They did a wonderful job cleaning up the water and made sure eveything was secure and in working order befor leaving. 100% will recommend to my friend and family and use in the future."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost to build a deck around a pool typically ranges from $3,000 to $12,000, depending on the size, material, and whether you tackle the build yourself. Most people pay an average of $5,000 for their pool deck project. Hiring a pro to build a pool will cost you more for labor, but it will be worth it to ensure a safe and secure installation.

Deck repairs cost around $800 to $3,500 . However, your cost depends on the type and severity of the repair, as well as the type of decking material you have. Other factors, like location and labor costs, impact the price, too. Boards and railings are the priciest parts of a deck to repair, while loose stairs are less expensive to fix.

Both aluminum and composite decking materials are environmentally friendly, with aluminum decking coming in as the most eco-friendly option.

Though composite decking helps remove plastics from landfills, recycles wood, and lasts longer than traditional wood decks, it’s not recyclable and only lasts for 25 to 30 years on average. Aluminum can last well over 30 years and is almost always recyclable.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.
