"Chris was my Landmark Landscaping representative who came to my home we were renting and moving from. Chris was very good at listening to me and my wishes for my front flowerbed. I wanted my flowerbed cleaned out of all the weeds and a rose bush saved. I also wanted mulch layer down. This had to last a year for the next tenant. Chris gave me a quote of $300.00 for the required work. When they got there they sprayed the weeds to kill them, waited a couple of days for weed killer to work. They came back and weeded the flowerbed as requested. It looked great at that time but they got the mulch laid and, WoW! What a great looking front yard!! We would definitely hire them again. V. "Great company to work with. Had a project last summer and another this month. Kurt Draper was wonderful to work with, using my ideas and his suggestions to totally remake my yard. I'm almost sorry that my entire yard is done now so I won't need to work with them again!"

Small jobs welcome

"This guy has been great for us. He is mowing the yard for my mom and he has done a great job all summer. We will also be using his snow service. Additionally, he was able to take down a tree that had grown taller than the house and for a reasonable price. He is also very kind and takes the time to talk to you when you have questions. I highly recommend him."

"I had a sewer pipe issue in my front yard that had to be dug up and repaired and needed the pile of dirt the plumbing company left in my front yard graded and hydroseeded. I got online and we’re looking for landscapers and contractors in Davenport Iowa in the Quad cities and they responded right away and had a great price. Highly recommended!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

Unless it only rains once in a blue moon where you live, you’re going to want water-loving plants in your garden bed or pot. A few ideas for plants that aren’t super fast-growing (meaning they’re good in pots or near foundations) and can handle a lot of standing water include:

  • Acorus (Sweet flag)

  • Colocasia esculenta (Taro or elephant ear): In many climates, these are annuals, making them less desirable because you need to adjust the chain again after each replant.

  • Equisetum scirpoides (Dwarf horsetail rush): non-dwarf varieties of horsetail are fast growers and can take over quickly.

  • Juncus effusus (Curly rush)

  • Osmunda regalis (Royal fern): Royal fern can grow quickly but can also handle being crowded, making them good container plants.

It is possible to plant a tree over a ground stump if it was ground very deeply. However, it is typically best to plant elsewhere so your new tree has room to establish a strong, healthy root system. If you want to plant a tree in the same spot where you currently have a stump, you may want to consider other options, such as stump removal.

Yes, many providers offer organic or eco-friendly treatments. Confirm availability with your contractor.

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.
