Sutton Roofing & Siding was started in 1946 by Edsel & Mayme Sutton in Springfield Illinois. Edsel sold the work and Mayme ran the business. They had an installer and focused solely on Roofing and Siding. In those days, there were only a handful of colors to offer customers. The Sutton’s prided themselves on using the highest quality materials and installation available. Then, they put their name on it and offered a guarantee. A handful of the projects they did in those early days can still be seen on homes in the older areas of Springfield today. In the late 1970's, Douglas Sutton moved back to Springfield and took over the family business for his parents, Edsel and Mayme. He changed the name to reflect the expanded remodeling services. The new name was Sutton Siding & Remodeling, Inc. A marketing partner of Doug's was responsible for one of the most successful marketing campaigns in Springfield. Sutton Siding & Remodeling adopted the slogan, ""You call us, we don't call you."" That is because some key competitors at the time were dialing for dollars every evening and on weekends bothering people for appointments. The slogan worked and separated Sutton's from the vultures lurking on the phone.
